Kismet's travels

Really Jul 28, 2010 04:23 PM

Well, we are back from our trip and we had a blast. Kismet traveled really well. She was treated warmly by the entire hotel staff and seemed to relish the attention. She really seemed to love basking out by the pool, but while I remember taking pics out by the pool I can't find any!

Great pictures- I wish Marley liked to be out and about. He's an indoor guy and feels secure spending time in his doggie crate(I leave the door open so he can come and go as he pleases). When he goes outside to an unfamiliar place he gets a little nervous, and if too many people approach him at once he just wants to crawl back into his carrier bag.
That's really cool the hotel accomodated Kismet so well and that she is comfortable with the whole travel experience. She looks so happy and relaxed. Glad you guys' vacation went well and that Kismet enjoyed the trip=)

Kismet spent enough time as an education animal that crowds don't bother her -- and she certainly did gather crowds when she was out by the pool! Poor baby has been mauled by countless school children and she takes it all in stride. The only time she really showed signs of stress was when there was a hawk flying over the pool. We made sure we let her know she was safe and brought her inside if she got too stressed out.

The hotel staff was amazing. They even comped a refrigerator so we had a way to keep her salad fresh!

We were there for the American Tarantula Society Conference but we definitely spent more time answering questions about Cyclura than spiders!

That's fantastic! Glad she's so well adjusted.

So cute! I care barely take Petra outside nowdays with the egg-laying craziness..She's been so moody!

How big is Kismet?

Kismet is about five pounds and is 33 inches snout to tail. Hopefully, she'll bulk up this year since she didn't lay eggs! This is the first year she's shed twice the same year too, again I think because she didn't use all of her energy on eggs.

Incredibly practical question here; how did you deal with poop and pee?

Mostly, she went outside when we had her out on her leash. When we stopped at a rest area, we walked her.

When we walked around the hotel, my husband had rigged a diaper (she didn't like it too much, but she tolerated it) by cutting a whole in a baby diaper for her tail, but she never actually went in the diaper. We usually have a towel under her in case of an accident when we hold her and we did that when we weren't using the diaper. We wanted to be extra careful since the hotel was being very gracious about letting us take her anywhere except the restaurants (for obvious reasons).

We also have a bag that we carry with all of her stuff in it. We always wipes and paper towels in case she has an accident. Wipes clean up iggy mess off of pretty much any surface without staining.
