Except the person you got it from, or the person they got it from, etc.. A picture won't tell you what side of the political border it came from.

Understood. I have looked and have not found any pics on the internet where there were similar, thin markings minus the widow's peaks. Made me wonder.

I have a similar one, was sold to me as a Guyana, real thin bold saddles, almost reminds me of a peruvian a little.

how about the wife or husband of the peson he got it from? or the business partner, or daughter, or father of the person or best friend? can we trust those people JB?

You can stop trolling my posts now.

But if you plan to keep reading them (and, *sigh* responding to them), I suggest reading my signature that gets attached to every post I make. It states that what I post is an opinion. Perhaps you overlooked it while salivating over the chance to enhance your day by attempting to screw with me.

it's refreshing to see you finally acknowledge that what you say is your opinion. I would agree with that.

Actually, the trappers in guyana do not go to suriname, no matter what ppl tell you. The suriname exproters do go to guyana and bring snakes back to suriname to ship out as cheaper to buy from guyanan trappers then surinamese trappers. Soooo that being said, if exported out of guyana, its a guyanan locale redtail, exported out of suriname.....cant be too sure. Depends on season....and rain.

kaiyudsai Jul 29, 2010 07:44 AM

It has nothing to do where the trappers go.... the boas are brokered out to an exporter... and they decide where to ship out of based on quota, logistics and price..These animals can change hands several times and can be shipped hundreds of miles down river or more via plane... boats and planes are the main form of transportation here....... there are not many REAL borders between Suriname and Guyana.... so livestock flows pretty freely between the two......

Suriname is pretty corrupt.. and Guyana isnt much better..... I'd be willing to be boas from some of the surrounding countries come through there also...

As far as using posted pics to classify your boa.. there is such a skewed view of what each locale should look like in the industry.. that that sort of method is unreliable.....

Not at all. Surinamese think that their boas are worth more, thus dont cross over to guyana to sell them as they get paid more for them in suriname. Guyanaese boas do get sent do suriname as they are cheaper in guyana. I import boas and have had lengthy lengthy discussions on this with both exporters and iucn people.
They follow and studied the trade. Most come from interior of guyana as it is not cost effective to go into brazil/french guyana. Usually the redtail guy is one of only a few that specialize in redtails, and brings them to the exporters based on their orders. He does not travel into suriname to catch, then ship out of guyana. Just doesnt happen, guyana to suriname, does.

SNAKESATSUNSET Jul 29, 2010 12:48 PM

the exporters have their own guys that are local, that go out and bring back snakes. they do not travel hundreds of miles, nor go to different countries to find snakes to ship out of guyana. They simply go out on a canoe a few hours south, and come back in a few days with a few boas. Its not an ellaborate scheme to catch hundreds and ship them everywhere as hundreds are not exported at once, only 6-12 usually, and then if your lucky. I have ordered 4 guyana shipments with 20 redtails on each order, at primo dollar, and not one has been sent

kaiyudsai Jul 29, 2010 01:32 PM

If you havent been able to get any of the four shipments you ordered... then I'm not really putting much credence in your "intimate knowledge" of the redtail industry in the Guiana shield......

Also... price of quality guyana stuff has been going up... as the demand has been rising for unusual localities.... ... But going in the backyard with a canoe is absolutely absurd.... and no person can make a living shipping out 6-18 boas here and there.... that's just not how the animal trade works...... Georgetown is not a bunch of huts in the jungle...... it's a city.. as is Paramiribo.... with the exstensive deforestation they are having to travel farther and farther into the South.... thats just the reality of the environment down there..... Indigenous populations collect alot of these and sell them to larger agents in many cases...... these indigenous people may travel miles from up river to sell their wares harvested from the countryside............ I have a good friend in Manaus, Brazil that used to broker boas for an agent in Nickerie........ this is how it was done..... it's right on the Guyana Border.... they sent stuff out of Georgetown when their quotas were full.....

We do not import just boas, they are filler animals for us. We import 12-20 emeralds,30 cooks, 20 redfoots, 10 yellowfoots, 1000 tarantulas, 50 rainbow lizards, etc.
They travel a 6-10hours downstream, and come backwith what they find. there are no resources for traveling weeksto another country to get brazilian boas and ship as guyanans, or surinames and ship as guyanans.

I cant agree. I don't know how much time you have actually spent in South America but Ive put in my share time down there and know how it works from doing it.

Whatever you want to believe..... but there's no way around the slim quota that Suriname has... I've talked to several people that have told me much different,......

suriname is much more expensive to import from then guyana. Almost dbl on some species. BIRDS are the business, reptiles are just side money.
