Are my Leos on a hunger strike??

MrHobby Sep 24, 2003 12:38 PM

I have 2 female leos, one weighing 45g and the other 17g. They have been caged together for 6 weeks. I was concerned that the smaller one was being intimidated by the larger one during feeding. I relocated the little one into a different cage. Now my larger one has completely stopped eating! She went from an aggressive appetite to NOTHING for 3 days! She shed about a week earlier and even that didn't slow her HEALTHY appetite. I am beginning to wonder if she is missing her former room mate. She appears to be alert and moves about as always, just not eating.
Does anyone have any ideas??
Thanks

Mine are slowing down their eating too. They still eat, but at a much slower pace (like waiting 5 minutes before stalking the next prey item instead of 5 seconds). That's why I'm relying more on the mealworms I leave in the bowl so the leos can eat at their own leisure.

I live in south Alabama and there has not been much of a season change here. Maybe the Leos have an internal clock! I would not be as concerned if it were only a slow down...this is a complete STOP! I leave mealies in at all times and usually feed crickets 3-4 times throughout the week. She hasn't eaten anything at all going on 4 days....getting worried!!!

Thanks for the advice..

Wait a little, keep an eye on their weight, and call the vet if nothing improves soon... just my opinion

She has lost some weight, usually opens one eye at a time, and is becoming more lethargic. I would definately take her to a Vet if there were one around that knew anything about geckos! The last trip I made to a Vet was a waste. He basically said he didn't know what was wrong and randomly prescibed an antibiotic and said 'it would be better than nothing!' Needless to say, that gecko did not survive. I will probably have to diagnos and treat her myself if at all possible.

Thanks for the advice.
