I finally broke down and put a Normal female into my collection. The two female morphs I have lined up to breed to my Pewter male won't be ready until the 2011 - 2012 breeding season and I can't afford a breeding size morph female for him right now so I did a trade today and picked up this Normal girl to put with my Pewter this fall. She's huge, bigger and heavier than any of my other adult females. She grew to adulthood in Africa, maybe that's how she got so big? Was imported gravid which I feel bad about even though I'm not the one who bought her straight from Africa, she's been through a couple of hands before coming to me and has been in captivity about 2-3 years now. I was told she laid 11 eggs after being imported which makes me think that wasn't her first clutch so who knows how old she is. She's really scarred up, unsure if things in Africa tried to eat her or what. She's shy but not aggressive. For being as much into morphs as I am I'm surprised how much I'm really loving this girl. I think part of it is I feel bad for her for being taken from her home in the wild so she's tugged at my heart strings.

Hmmm, I replied to this but don't see it. Will reply again... She's 3170 grams and yes, she has a Huge head. She's about 4-5 feet long so is by no means a record breaker but she's the largest snake in my collection by about 200 grams. My Het Caramel girl topped 3000 prior to laying her eggs and is eating good so should get back up in the 3000s pretty soon. I have her in a 40 breeder tank in my living room, the rest of my snakes live in racks in my back bedroom. I'm kind of enjoying having her out here with me while I'm watching TV or going on the internet.

Thats a big girl even if she´s not a recordholder.

I think that females over 3000g is big enough to make a large number of eggs and that is one big reason to have bigger females.

She looks great Lyn, I wish all of my Normal females were that size. She is a really good looking girl. Congratulations.. One thing that concerns me is why has she been passed through so many owners being a big girl like she is? Did anyone like the last owner mention that maybe she never bred for him or something like that? If I had a girl that size I surely wouldn't let her go. I hope she does great for you this fall. She wasn't this big when my friends got her, I don't know if they got her directly from the person who originally got her as an import and got the 11 babies from her or if there were other hands in between, but my friends said she was quite thin when they got her and not up to breeding weight. They've been feeding her heavy to get her up to the size she is now with plans to breed her this coming fall.

I had a young morph female they wanted and I wanted a female to breed this year as so many of mine aren't ready yet. So it just worked out that I had something they wanted and they had something I wanted. The trade was my idea, not theirs, they had not intended to sell or trade her as they were going to breed her, but they wanted the little morph girl more so it worked out for both of us.

She could stand to be a little heavier just because she is pretty long so I'll continue to feed her heavy until fall. I hope my male Pewter can figure out what to do, she's a proven breeder but this will be his first time. I can use my Honey Bee male as a backup as he's a proven breeder but I'd rather it work out with the Pewter.

She ate a jumbo rat tonight with no problem. Wasn't worried as obviously she eats to get this size, but still always a relief to have a new snake eat first time for you

Glad she ate for you lyn. The albino Is doing well also. Just so u can have it for ur records I measured her using an online program and she is 5 foot 2. So did u keep the name?
