Where to get fence lizards?

waspinator421 Jul 29, 2010 02:52 AM

Does anyone know where I can get a couple fence lizards to use for scenting? I live in WI so would need them shipped. Any help appreciated!

Heh! I just released all my fence lizards last week to make room for other things! But alas, it is not legal for me to ship them out of California, anyway.

But, there are a couple of ads at the classifieds here for emerald swifts (Sceloporus malachiticus) that would work just as well, and are nice pets, too. Also, sometimes I see southern fence lizards for sale.

Yo,
Anoles and Med. Geckos should work. I assume you are senting for those awesome Thayeri and, maybe, those Cali. Kings (my personal favorite). Pinkie mouse parts should work and be a heck of a lot cheaper than shipping in lizards ( I always take for granted that here in TX I can just step outside and catch all three lizards!). Just my $.02!!!

Yes, anoles are usually available at Petco, etc. seeing as it is the reptile smell the Little snake needs on the pink, why not use a corn snake to rub on the pinky if one happened to have one on hand. Almost everyone who jeeps colubrids seems to have a corn snake in the collection. It seems leopard geckos would work, too. Not to actually feed the leopard gecko to the snake (it would be too big anyway! LOL!) but as a way of having a fun lizard pet and also always have the scent available for baby snakes. I keep a supply of frozen fence lizards my cats have killed in my freezer for when I get new baby pyros, or when a friend has new grey banded. We make a tea out of a bit of the frozen lizard and dip the pinky in that.

Well first what type of knig is it?

Eatern getula like Florida kings do better on water snake scent.

Also, you should be able to find lizards in your area. Anything will work (skinks etc).

It will be for Thayeri Kings... just want to be prepared. Last year I tried a House Gecko with no luck. I heard that they prefer Fence Lizards, so that is why I asked about them. Do you really think Anoles will work? Those are easy to get.
