Hey I am not alone with the typing errors. I got both of these from a breeder a few years ago at one of the tampa shows. I don't remember him saying anything about them being hets or even possible hets? I think he would have told me since that would have been a great selling point, you know? I am waiting to see if anymore pop out. Here are the parents they are extremely nice! I'm not just saying that cause they are mine, lol. Pictured with the pair is a Hypo het for SilverQueen Ghost which I also bred to the same male. So that will be an interesting project too.

Cool beans Jorge!!! Hold on to that one. Hopefully it will mature into a nice candycane amel!!!

a153fish Jul 29, 2010 03:49 PM

Yeah Kev I hope there's more. I did some checking around on one of the big Cornsake forums and there was some controversy over what is in the Candy Canes. One thread said there was some Amel Emory involved? I don't really know. It looks very interesting whatever it's called and I can't wait to see it or them grow and shed a few times. Most of the eggs still haven't even pipped. All this waiting is so hard, lol.

Candy canes are selective bred amels. I'm sure there are a few that may not even have "Miami" in them but the contrasting background to saddles in Miamis translate better in amel versions and I would venture to say that most of the best candy canes are selective bred amels from Miami stock.
There was a mention in Kathy Love's first book of one of the early breeders trying emoryi to help get the whiter background with his candy canes but I would imagine the emoryi influence brought a little too much yellow into the mix. But this was years ago and one breeder. I seriously doubt there are any lines of candy canes out there that have any emoryi in them.
At least no more emoryi then any other corn snakes being bred in captivity today.

I think the CCs are just line bred amels, but if not mistaken the stock originated from miami phase animals to get the pink out of the back ground color and make them more white. I have heard emoryi may have been introduced as Jimmy stated to try and clean the background up even more. However, I am sure even the best normal miamis have been line bred for that silver grey groundcolor regardless of locality, which translates into better candycanes when amelanism is introduced. I would be interested to see how those babies mature colorwise and I hope you are keeping at least one normal and amel back to see LOL!!

yeah Kev, I am gonna keep a few, lol. I just checked and there is another pink head poking, out and several more eggs yet to pip.

yeah miamis are selective bred "normals" so when you go through all of that to get the sharp contrast it translates well into the amels.
