new pics of my pink hog

e s tropicals Jul 29, 2010 07:54 PM

After a few meals and a little growth, i took another picture of my pink that i believe is a hypo pink, next to a typical pink pastel that i produced. Color is still holding strong, belly is still patternless and clear. Cant wait to grow her up and breed her back to the father. One of her sibling pinks is a close second to her, the rest are colored the same as all my other pink pastels.

That is an awesome looking specimen regardless if it's a double PPA x T or not. But it does beg the question since there are a lot of the Lazik double hets out there, have any been produced previously that were proven to have both genes? I really hope that yours is a double homo animal as it would be nice to be able to reproduce such a wonderfully colored hognose.

Thanks for sharing!

That is awesome Erik. Is the het I got from you from the same clutch as the hypoish pink? Very happy with that male by the way.

The het you got from me is out of the same group of females, but it was a bhb male that fathered them. I cant rule out the chance that the gene is in all the hognose i sold in the last 3 years. This year was the first year one of the males that were produced from my females was bred back to them. When my male was a baby he was pick of the litter, he was outstanding looking so i kept him. I will use him to breed the hypo pink and her 3 sibs and see what happens. Worst case maybe i stumbled across a new gene, ive been throwing around the tangerine pink name.

Troy , I bred all Erik's female double het pink pastel/hypos to my BHB pink pastel male two years ago. My own BHB pinks tended to be lighter in pink color, and faded as they matured. The young from the double het females seemed to be more colorful. Despite the large number of pink pastels we produced, none looked like that one. The Lazik double hets brought in some gene, and I sure hope Erik can isolate and reproduce it.

I can only imagine a superconda with the tangerine background color.

That's very interesting Wendell, thanks for that info!

I do have to say that my BHB PPA's also faded a lot as they have matured. When they were young, they had a lot of red in them and now they are more of a whitish pink although there is still some redness that exhibits itself, but not like when they were yearlings.

I too am keeping my fingers crossed for Erik as that would be a most welcome addition to the palette of colors that we currently have.

I also agree, a Superconda with that coloration would be amazing! Good luck with that project. Please keep us posted how it matures.

Troy, Erik has a lot of possibilities when trying to enhance that gene. He has the original pair that produced it, sibling females, and the progeny. And I have a pair of the Lazik hypos, via Ted Williams, that produced youngsters for me this year. I could give Erik a male hypo to breed back to his double hets, or the pink progeny. Great fun!

I just pulled this pic off casey's site. This is one of his hypos. In my opinion it is a very red animal, which probably explains the tangerine color of my hypo pink.

I hope to see it in person one day.

Greg, Check out the female siblings too. He says they show similar coloring to a lesser degree. Pick one out for me when you are there. LOL

The female is a normal, the father is a pink pastel. They are all descendants from my original poss double het hypo/pink male that came from Lazik. Some of my females that did not prove to be het for pink were bred a normal albino male last year and everything hatched out normal. This year i bred those same normal females to a double het snow male and produced all normals. I really dont think the normal albino gene exsists in my pink/poss hypo line. The hypo gene is the only wildcard. I will find out next year, i might breed a hypo male to some of my normal females and see what pops out.

This is verry interesting.
Because there are pics out ther of an supposed Pink-Hypo (think it is called Silver Gost or something like this)
that do look nothing like this. Perhaps will Kevin be this kind and post those pics for comparison?
