Morphs

DiamondFlame10 Jul 29, 2010 08:10 PM

I was just curious about what morphs are best to begin with, based on affordability, possibilities for projects... that sort of thing.

I plan on starting with albinos because I have a het albino male, so I'm hoping to get an albino female this year.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Teresa

The best ones to start out with are the ones you like the most that fit into your budget. Albinos are a classic and pretty popular so are a good choice. There are a lot of single gene codom and dominant morphs that are fairly affordable that are good to start with, like yellowbellys, pastels, mojaves, spiders, lessers and butters, cinnamons, etc. the good thing with codoms is that, in one breeding, you can produce offspring with multiple genes. the best thing you can do is look around at some of the morphs that are out there, and see what you like that is in your budget. Here is a pretty decent list of some of the morphs that are out there:

Thanks a bunch.

I have another question. Is there a difference (in genetics) between an albino and a high contrast albino? I have a het albino... Would it matter which one I bred it to?

It shouldn't make a difference. As far as I know, the albino lines are compatible.

For fun you could get a codom or dom morph girl het Albino, like a Cinnamon het Albino, or Spider het Albino, or Pin het Albino just to name a few options.

the albino female wont matter, it is like a pied, there are high whites, low whites, and medium whites, there isnt a particular line that produces only highs, lows or meds. Its just how it happens to come out, yes your chances for a high contrast albino would be greater if you did your het male to a high contrast female, but that would just be because the female is a high contrast and can pass that trait to any of the offspring.
