Definition of Hoarding:

wireptile Jul 30, 2010 04:51 PM

"I dont care if its dogs or reptiles, 25 of any type of animal in the home is hoarding."

Marla Lichtenburger DVM
http://www.erforanimals.com/

This professional made this statement on a Wisconsin Public Radio call-in talk show on pet care yesterday. There were no other qualifiers in her statement.
You can hear the show on her clinic website. A caller had a question about the dangers of snapping turtles. Her reply was something to the effect that "we are prey to them!"
Be sure to look at the video with the alligator. She was the vet involved with the Terry Cullen confiscation. You can get an idea on how knowledgeable and experienced she is with reptiles.

Are there any hoarders on this forum?

Without seeing the link, I disagree with her hoarding statement. Well of course I do.
Just another unqualified "qualified" opinion. When one individual's personal taste becomes the rule of law, we're all screwed.

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.
6.6 African House snakes
3.2 reticulated pythons
.1 corn snake
4.2 Florida Kings
1.2 speckled kings
1.2 ball pythons

the person with three bony, flyblown horses in one small crummy pen, or one iguana with mbd because heshe won't provide the proper care is as much a problem as anyone. It isn't about the numbers kept, but the quality of care each animal gets.

The problem is that animal control doesn't know the difference between a healthy iguana and a sick one. They can't can't distinguish between a milk snake and a coral, or a ratsnake and cobra. If they can label you as a horder and take all your snakes, they will do so. To many of them keeping any reptile is a horrid thing, regardless of the animals condition.

We've been letting ignorant people call the tune for too long. Actually, most are just oblivious, unwitting pawns, chanting the mantra of ignorance tattooed to their brains by those devious ones with the agenda.

We appreciate these animals because we are NOT brain dead automatons, as our leaders would prefer.

I want to know why a woman with so little knowlege about reptiles is treating them. There is no such thing as an African Dwarf Alligator. Half of what she said was talking about how strange and unusual she thought the animals were. Does that sound like the type of person who should be caring for these animals?

I'd better get to work then, I only have three!

if thats the "definition" I'm a hoarder twice over!

I agree its the condition of the animals, not the #, as far as my local animal control (2 closest counties) I am the one they tend to call for reptile cases, its a good/bad thing, cuz my house is about full!
