Just a question....

basssnatcher34 Jul 31, 2010 01:14 PM

I noticed mites. No not a lot, just one or two on one snake. I am gonna treat my whole colony. Can I have several balls in one container for a short amount of time so I can clean and treat my rack system? What would be the best way to do this? I have the mite spray, I know what to do with the spray. I plan on soaking each snake by themselves. When I get their set up and ready, they will be replaced back in there tubs. I just need to keep several together while I do the cleaning. I have like 9 snakes in my rack with only 5 tubs extra.

I have heard of many people on here suggesting others to use use Nix (the stuff for human lice). I am not totally sure about the ratio of it to water if you do add it to water. I would think that if all your snakes have mites then it shouldn't be a problem to keep them together in the same container and would probably would be a great idea to clean your whole rack system like you said. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to spray down that whole room. If you wait more people will comment and tell you the Nix spray ratio and give you more suggestions. I hope everything gets better. Mites....... Yuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cut and pasted this from a previous post on mites. I have never had them and I hope I never do...but if I ever get them this is what I will try myself....

Go to walmart and get a box of Nix, it's lice treatment. There will be two bottles inside, both 59ml each. Dump one whole 59ml bottle inside a gallon of distilled water and shake the hell out of it since the Nix is thick. Fill up an unused spray bottle and go to work on the cage and surrounding areas. It's even good for spraying the snake themselves, even on the head. I used this formula when I had literally THOUSANDS of mites at once. Got rid of every mite over the weekend. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind. I use prevent-a-mite now. It has worked for me in the past, the only drawback compared to the "lice" stuff is you have to remove every snake from the room being treated. From the sounds of the lice meds, it can be used on and around the snakes. Thanks again.

you dont have to remove the animal from the room. you jsut cant spray it directly on them. the instructions clearly state to jsut remove the animal and the waterbowl from the enclosure, spray it, let it air a minute or so and then replace them. you can also spray a bit on a rag and wipe the animal down if need be.
