Finally got some pippies

ChrisMaze Jul 31, 2010 04:21 PM

Well woke up this morning and had to take off for a soccer tryout. On my way my wife let's me know the first little corn was poking his head out. Got back home here and checked and got to see the 2nd one just poke his head out. So far looks like an anery het amel and a normal het for both. Not sure whether I'll get any motleys either. Have to wait and see. I'll try and get some pics later after the camera is charged up.

Here's some pictures finally.

There's one of the anery pipping, the normal pipping. The third is the anery motley finally out of his egg. (Same one from the pipping picture, but couldn't see the motley til it was out)

Got a 3rd head poking out now. Pleased to see yet another color. Got an amel out of this one. Will have to see once its fully out to determine whether it'll be a regular amel or a creamsicle. Trying to determine whether this anery root beer is in fact of the root beer variety or just a regular anery.

I'm pretty pleased with the results thus far as this breeding was a little test to determine the males genetics. Only knew the anery for sure. But so far now figured out he's het for amel and motley. What else will he surprise me with???

Uhm.... you can't really test for hybrid genetics like that. If the parent was labeled as an anery rootbeer... then he has some sort of non-corn rat snake in his genetics, typically emoryi. That means that all the offspring you get from him will be hybrids too. Any "normals" are rootbeers and any "amels" are creamsicles, no matter how red or yellow/orange they look or don't look.

Yea. I know. Just maybe hoping to see maybe more of the Emory influence in the coloring.

If you bred him to a creamsicle... you wouldn't be able to tell which parent the influence was coming from, if you even saw any.
If you bred him to a "pure" corn... you would see even less influence because the emoryi blood would be further diluted.

If he was sold as an anery rootbeer, then that is what he is. It may have been 10 generations back, but he still comes from a hybrid line even if he otherwise looks "pure" cornsnake.

Don't get me wrong here. I completely understand the "root beer" and how it works. Not trying to argue. Just that the people I picked him up from really don't seem to understand the genetics all that well and I wonder if THEY even know what a "root beer" is. That's kind of why I'm hoping to see more Emory influence. But yes, either way, the babies will be labeled as creamsicles, snowsicles, and anery and normal root beers.
