Thanks Al, so you produced a hybino and a snow this year? Congrats! Those on your list of buyers are lucky.

Ryan.

How old are your McGurty's, and how is their growth rate...?
I have two adult females and a pair of two year olds.
The youngsters have kept their color really, really well, but have not grown very quickly either...
Here they are

They eat well but are still at about 26 inches. My big female is at or over 5 feet and has the girth of a redbull can.

Here's a pair of het. Klumpers I sold but still have - insane color on these two.

Thanks for throwing some action into the forum.

Wow I had a pair of McGurtys like yours that I got from Randy Wright and the female died you after a regurging once after her third meal with me and my male was an awful eater, I let my business partner take him and he's growing slowly. My new pair have monster appetites and I'm wondering if its due to outcrossing. For example, I believe the grandparents of my pair come from a pairing like this:

Producing the parents of my pair:

And once again my pair (younger pics):

Here is the male that is a poor eater and slow grower:

It may be do to outcrossing. Strengthening the bloodline does wonders from the color and vitality of these animals.
I found out that the applegate morph is compatible with the McGurty line - producing nearly a 50/50 clutch - applegates and McGurty's. I was under the impression that the McGurty's had never been outcrossed with the applegates. I learned a few years ago that was just the case.....

I used a really nice applegate male to sire a McGurty clutch this year. Should be cutting out in a few weeks.

That adult pair you posted is just stunning!!!!! I hope mine hold that kind of color.

Lucky, my only adult SD female threw duds and died this season :/

Would you keep me on the list for a McGurty female or het when they hatch?

byron.d Aug 04, 2010 01:01 PM

They should be hatching out in the next few weeks.

Sorry about your breeder. My biggest female dropped a big clutch of slugs and retained three of them for almost a month..... I was really worried about loosing her - but she kicked them out is back on track now.

My other female did a good job pinch hitting for her and gave me a small but good batch.

Shoot me your email address so I have your contact info.

She was 9 yrs old, perhaps the old gal just didn't have it in her.

Beautiful collection of San Diego's Ryan. Thanks for sharing. I've always felt as colorful, calm and easily fed and managed as these snakes are it's a shame they don't have a larger following. But I guess we can all work to change that

Great stuff, Ryan. Annectens are my fave Pit and extremely underrated. You have got some great looking SD's. More folks on here should follow you and Al's lead, and post up pics of your San Diegos. Thx for sharing.
