New Morph - New Pic - New Name

dwherp Aug 03, 2010 01:18 PM

A few weeks ago I posted some pre-shed photos of a new mutation we proved from a dinker project. We've had lots of name suggestions offered to us, and after much tough deliberation, we've decided to name this new base mutation the "Rio". Rio is of course Spanish for river. The river flowing down the backs of these snakes has several characteristic rocks in it, as well as boulders along the shore... anyway it makes sense to us.

The Rio is the homozygous form of this mutation, and although I can visually tell the hets, they are not crazy different from a normal ball python, so even though it may be categorized as "weakly" co-dominant, we have decided to call them het for Rio - rather than creating another name for them.

Hope you enjoy. Thanks everyone for all of the name suggestions.

When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the positive feedback. As far as the coloration goes, Id say in certain light the orange looks just like the photo. The females are in mid shed right now, once they do I'll take some more group photos and try some different lighting conditions.

Best wishes,
Dan

All these dinkers proving out lately gives me hope for my "WTF" ball. I REALLY hope she proves out.
I'd be happy even if she was the super form, but if she is the het form...I can't wait to see what the super is.

That is awesome. Add that to my wishlist. Any chance we get to see photos of the hets?

Hi Jason,
Gald you like our new creation. We're not ready to release photos of the hets just yet, but I can tell you that they tend to want to be somewhat striped, and although more subtle, they have some of the charateristics of the homozygous form. More to follow as things progress.

All the best,
Dan

Hi Pitoon,

Sorry, this guy was not being very cooperative with the camera, and his Rio sisters are deep in shed. I'm not on my office computer, but when I get to the office in the morning, I'll repost one of the preshed photos for you. The hets tend to be somewhat striped, and although more subtle, they have some of the same characteristics as the homozygous form.

Regards,
Dan

Dan,
those are killer!!!! but how much do the het's differ from the supers?

would you consider it in the same lines like a pastel...with the super pastel being just a bit more drastic in appearance than a pastel?
