LEOPARD SUNGLOW/ALBINO QUESTION??

Tom Burke Aug 03, 2010 07:12 PM

This is my second year trying for the Leopard Sunglow and I'm still not sure if I've succeeded!!! LOL I have noticed a difference in their eyes and I'm hoping you can see what I mean in these pictures.

First up is a 2009 I still go back and forth on whether he's a Sunglow poss het Leopard or actually a Leopard Sunglow. Take note of his eyes.

the same 2009 male

Close up of the 2009 male's eye

Here is a 2010 Female Sunglow I believe is actually a Het Leopard based on her funky pattern that I find fairly typical for het leopards and look at her eye. Her eye is more what I'd expect on a typical Sunglow.

Here is another 2010 sibling. Another Sunglow and check out her eye!

What do you make of this?? Are the red eyes indicative of the Leopard Sunglow or am I wishing too hard??

To make matters even worse.......is this male a Leopard Sunglow or a Leopard Albino??

I have to agree Tom , I believe the eyes tell the story, except the horizontal color shift( the line of pattern that goes through the eye)
I wouldn't think that would be there on a Leopard but maybe it is
there on all Leopards we just can't properly see it

So that darker ruby red color would suggest its quite possibly a Leopard Sunglow in both instances '09 & 10.

The only other problem that makes matters worse and complicates
things, is that if I'm not mistaken I've observed some
het Leopards with darker eyes.

The last Boa I want to call that an Albino Leopard.

I'm sure people that have actually seen Albino Leopard in the goo
Have a far better perspective than I do.

I've only seen Leopard and Salmon Leopard right barely out of the goo

I agree with LarM on thise one!!! One thing I do know is they are homozygous for gorgeous and I want to make them real bad!!! Funny that the Hypo gene once again seems to be rearing it's ugly head at changing the appearance of the gene. What's even weirder is that the albino gene seems to be interacting with it in some shape as well!!!

They're gorgeous I know that much!!!

this brings up an interesting topic hypo genes do have a tendency to distort pattern genes like seen in the motley , jungle , and the normal patterns . so rises my question maybe the hypo gene diluted the leopard gene look at the eyes of both males 09 and 10 they have some similarities now with that said look at the 09 stripe could the hypo gene broke down both the albino and leopard gene like we see in super sunglow morphs (note these are my stupid questions) the question would be to breed those boys back to a leopard and see what pops out if more than 50 percent of the litter turn out leopard then you know you did it (once again one of my stupid thoughts )me personally think both are leopard but the stripe guy might be a super hypo form of sunglow with leopard and that hypo gene raising all kinds of hell in there lol
please correct me if i am wrong we all know what the hypo gene is capable of maybe these two gorgeous animals are the example of the fact? and you had the wholly grail all this time lol
question would be to look at the hypo leopards and see if there is any break down like in the hypo motley or even the hypo jungles
im sorry if i might of created more confusion but it was one of those things that made me think about that and i know you guys thought the same thing just second guessed it?
which we all have done on alot of things
im sorry for my babble it just makes me wonder and i know others are going hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm too lol

They are really great looking... congrats Tom..for sure you can call them dwarf sunglows.

me personally (make note not a leopard nut like most) i think the sunglow male with the solid eyes looks odd do to the side markers its the markers that are clean that throw you off the second male "the lighter one" he definitely has leopard markings but its not solid like non albino leopards but the ques that are showing on the first male and the second male are the eyes maybe that is the only recognizable trait the leopard gene is there
i had to look at normal leopards to see the traits the lighter one i would say yes thats a leopard sunglow the stripe guy is something far beyond maybe a new type? kind of roswell looking lol
but very awesome snakes to say the least
these are the things that leave boa nuts scratching their heads going hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
hence the reason most of us are going bald lol

I believe the ones in question are Sunglow het Leopards. The reason is that of the Hypo Leopards that I've seen have had a more fragmented pattern, and the Hypo het Leos have often shown these partial stripes, and/or more traditional aberrancies. The eyes in het Leos have shown to sometimes be dark almost solid looking like the Homozygous ones do .
As for the last Leopard being Albino, or Sunglow -- that's a toss-up that'll need to be proven . I would imagine that it would be frustrating not knowing what they are.
