Results on the great husbandry debate?

ChelusFimbriatus Aug 03, 2010 10:49 PM

I was looking over past posts and came across a few from bruce_y and robyn@proextics. I was wondering if either of you had actually done the two set ups and if there were any results thus far? It was a great read and I am curiousto see if either had done this. I have found KS to be very beneficial in keeping reptiles, beardies mostly. It is a great place for keepers advanced and novice to throw ideas or questions around. Thanks for your time and reading this, hope to find out some results.

I am totally down to do it, but was waiting on word from Chris Allen on hatchling availability. He was also interested, but we thought we should start with clutchmates.

I haven't heard any updates from him though...

Sounds good. If you guys do choose to do this, I'd like to participate as well. Sounds like a fun experiment of sorts.

Not that I forgot about it, but haven't had the "extra" clutches or time really to mess with experimenting.

Some of the babies so far this year.

It would really work well if a clutch of 'normal' or 'expendable' babies (ie they are not part of your normal future business finances) can be used, raised up till a certain age then several shipped out to all the willing participants...who can start the process.

As vet checks will likely be needed to monitor changes in the babies that won't be visible to the naked eye (ie blood calcium levels), participants would have to be willing to put money into it. Also a control group would need to be set up with a few members of the same clutch, given the best care possible using standard methods to ensure there is a way to compare the various variations given to others.

Yes, it could be a commitment, both time and money.

And then it would all be a moot point, because BDlvr won't believe anything I say anyway : )
