That is a nice shot of te Peanut Butter. The pattern on him is diffefernt from other peanut butters. i predict he will be really light and look more like a true brooksi as an adult
best way i found to take pics IMO. Is on an overcast day, a short while (60 min) before sunset and get a closer sideways shot from the snake. In other words , rather than take a shot of the top of the snake. I n other words more on the snakes level shot. lower the camera where veiwfinder it is almost level with the ground. Maybe 5-6". Like how a rat would veiw the snake. Try that angle on an overcast day while the sun is just setting enough to cause orange glare (not direct sunlight) on the snake.
prepare a table with a colorful towel or blanket. Not to light
or dark. Try using Green, blue, beige, charcoal and light blue.
Yellow, orange, white and reds, not so good. A piece of wood board also works well or slate rock that is not reflective of the flash. Try not to use a background that is a similar color to the snake. Red snakes don't use a red twowel, Yellow snakes don't use a yellow or orange bacground. L:ight colored white snakes do not use a white background.
naturl settings like green grass works well if it is not in direct sunlight like mid day or overhead sunlight. Wait until the magic hour before sunset. Plain dirt on an overcast day woks great if you get more level with the ground and get that angled shot. That is if you can keep the snake crawling away or burrow into the grass.
Set on macro and use flash. Try some shots on certain snakes without flash and then compare which pics ade the color come out better. if you have a water seeting for blue water scenes, that works well to.
If you want to take pics of spastic snakes that never curl up and always bolt (Hondurans come to mind). Try putting the snakes in the refrigerator for a couple minutes to slow them down. It won't hurt them unless you leave them in there to long. Once they heat up the are gone before you can get your macro lens to focus.
