i purchased a few snap toppers by rubbermaid...28.3L. can these be heated safely with zoo med heating pads stuck directly to the plastic? or will that be too hot? also, how many vent holes would you drill? thanks.

I see the moderator got to this thread. 
First, you can do it. I have done so without even coming close to melting the container. That said, it's not a good idea. You are better off trying to provide a basking spot and a temperature gradient - use a dimmer.
As for holes, I like to put a few in the front bottom of the container. As the hot air rises, fresh air comes in from these low holes. There's not enough draft to harm the snake though. I usually add a few in the middle of the sides.
