More Baby Pics - Diffused Albino

SlytherLyn Aug 06, 2010 06:32 AM

I woke up to 3 more babies out of their eggs. Here is a Diffused Albino I think there are at least a couple more of these peeking from their eggs which is good because I want one and have a friend who wants one. Unsure if you can tell if a Diffused Albino is Hypo or not?

Here is another that hatched today. I sure hope it's a Pewter. How do you tell a Pewter from a Diffused Anery from a Diffused Ghost? He has pink cheeks and a pinkish belly if that matters any... Whatever he is he's adorable!!! I want a Pewter so am really hoping he's a Pewter.

Both of these recent babies look great! Sometimes these morphs can be a bit confusing huh? It definately looks diffused. It may be a Pewter. Could be a Granite I guess.

Yes, it could be any of those, but I do know that "granites" are more known for having a pinkish hue to them.

Being as it is so small, it's hard to say if it is pigment, or actually blood in the body we are seeing.

Cool as heck watever the case is though!

Diffused amels (aka Fires/amel bloods) rock IMO!! Should grow into a very pretty animal!! Congrats!!! Also, I thought a pewter was a diffused or bloodred anery??? Granite referring to diffused or bloodred charcoal??? Or vice versa. Not sure what a diffused ghost would look like or be called. Also with the diffused amel, you cannot tell if it his homozygous for hypo. The amel gene cancels out any visual indication of hypomelanism and the diffused gene cancels out belly pattern for the most part. So.., it would require breeding experiments with known hypos to verify if it is indeed homozygous for hypo. Diffusion clouds hypomelanism expression IMO due to reduction in belly pattern both traits exhibit. Same with the stripe and motley genes. Great traits to have in a breeder male mating with several females of varying genetics. But not sure if it gives you anything dramatically visual though (kind of like having a bloodred or diffused snow corn). A friend of mine swears you cannot tell amel stripes from amel striped bloodreds. The only way to verify is through breeding, or knowing you bred a bloodred het striped to a bloodred het striped.

Shiari Aug 06, 2010 11:07 AM

Granites are diffused aneries. Pewters are diffused charcoals. Ghost bloods are hypo anery diffused and Hypo Pewters are just that.

KevinM Aug 06, 2010 11:09 AM

Can you tell the diff visually?? I undertand the value from a breeding perspective for sure. However, are you really producing anything that visually different by having a diffused or hypo diffused anery a or anery b???

ShaunRoberson Aug 06, 2010 08:01 PM

A ghost definitely looks different than a granite; I don't know if I've ever seen a hypo Pewter - not sure how different it would look from a ghost or from a pewter for that matter - may not look as different since Pewters tend to be alittle more faded color to begin with.

Shiari Aug 06, 2010 10:45 PM

Hypo pewters tend to be extremely pale and rather pink overall with extreme low contrast, and the tendency for the "blue eyeshadow" and black pupils. Ian's viv shows good examples of granites, ghost bloods, pewters and hypo pewters.

http://iansvivarium.com/morphguide/granite/ - high contrast hatchlings

http://iansvivarium.com/morphguide/pewter/ - low contrast hatchlings

http://iansvivarium.com/morphguide/hypogranite/ - pale, but still contrasty

http://iansvivarium.com/morphguide/hypopewter/ - *extreme* low contrast.

ShaunRoberson Aug 07, 2010 05:55 PM

Yeah, now that I think of it I have seen the ones Sean at VMS has and you're right they are a pale pinkish as compared to a regular pewter or even compared to a hypo granite(Ghost blood).
PS Pituophis

Shiari Aug 06, 2010 11:09 AM

I'm going to say Granite, because of the eye color. You don't typically see that light silver color with a charcoal. They also tend to be a bit less contrasty than this hatchling.

SlytherLyn Aug 06, 2010 04:52 PM

Bummer, I'd rather have a Pewter than a Granite. Hopefully I'll hatch some of each so can have something to compare. I'm getting confused on the 3 albinos I hatched too. One has a totally patternless belly but the other two have faint checks at top third of their bellies then patternless the rest of the way which makes me wonder if those two are Hypo Albinos instead of Diffused Albinos. This clutch is going to drive me to drink. Whatever they are they are super cute and I love them. I'm going to have trouble deciding which one/s to keep

The next clutch to hatch is a Blizzard poss het Anery Lav crossed with an Anery Lav. Hopefully that will be an easier clutch to figure out...

I seriously doubt you will see visual evidence of hypomelanism in an amel animal. I used the analogy of hypomelanism being a short in the wiring to a light bulb. The short may cause barely noticeable reduction in the light, to more noticeable reduction in the light. Amelanism is light taking the light bulb out completely, so it doesnt matter what the wiring is doing cause you wont notice it.

SlytherLyn Aug 06, 2010 05:27 PM

You can in other species, unsure on corns. I had an albino Bull and a Hybino Bull and they were distinctly different. In balls too a Hypo Albino looks different, brighter. Yes, logically, the lessening of a color you've already removed should not make a difference but for some reason, at least in some species, it does.

Pewters as you said generally have a much messier pattern, especially before their first shed - granites look pretty much normal on top and like you erased the side markings.

KevinM - pewter is diffused Charcoal(anery B), granite is diffused Anery A.
