Twins and a two-headed!

Denbar Aug 06, 2010 06:46 AM

I finally have time to report the finale of a fascinating clutch. I had a clutch of 14 eggs from a tri-color hondo that took over a week for all to finish hatching. One egg had two noses poking out. (I missed getting that beautiful sight on film as they both pulled back when I attempted to remove the cover of the box.) I did however get a less desirable shot. You can still see two noses.

One egg got only a slight pip. After a couple days I cut it open. No movement. When I removed the snake it was a huge perfect body with two heads. I think it drowned from not being able to maneuver around.

Last egg looked perfectly fine but no pipping. When I opened it there was absolutely nothing inside but some clear fluid. That was a real surprise after the week long roller coaster ride. End result is I wound up with 14 babies (one with 2 heads dead) out of 14 eggs anyway. Now to get everybody eating!

Wow!, one crazy clutch for sure!

Big difference in the twins snout band too....weird!!!

I had a very similar two-headed amel Hondo last year that died before pipping too, but it's brain-case was under-developed and exposed some, whereas yours is fully formed.

Too bad man,.......would have been quite the anomaly!

Congrats on the ones that did make it out okay!
