Is hypo miami just another name for a crimson? I've gotten mixed results searching on the web for an answer. Thanks!

Is hypo miami just another name for a crimson? I've gotten mixed results searching on the web for an answer. Thanks!

Hypo Miami and Crimsons are a great examples for showing the diversity of corns. They are basically two different results from mixing Hypo into Miami corns. AFAIK, Don Soderberg and Rich Z pretty much started this project at the same time, but different results paired with different goals in breeding resulted in what I think are two completely different looking animals. They had a very similar start but a different outcome. Crimsons tend to be very bright as hatchlings and over time develop a light tan background with orange/red saddles. From what I have observed in my collection and others, Hypo Miamis arn't as flashy looking as hatchlings but as they age tend to keep a nice grey background much more than Crimsons do and also tend to keep a nice solid red. Crimsons on the other hand tend to fade into softer colors as they age. Of course there are exceptions, but these are just the trends I have noticed in general. They are both beautiful, personally I prefer the Hypo Miamis, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This year I crossed a Crimson with a Hypo Miami and I have no idea what to call the offspring. LOL
Here is a Crimson from Rich Z lines
Here is a Hypo Miami from Don S lines
What would you call mine? I got her as a hypo miami but she has a lot of tan between her saddles and her saddles are a red/orange color.
She actually looks to me like a cross between the two lines. She has some tan, but not as much as most Crimsons and her saddles look pretty red to me. Like I said, there are ALWAYS exceptions but each line does have a certain look. Yours kind of looks like a little of both. She is very pretty, where did you get her and how old is she? The other problem is, as other breeders aquire these snakes and start thier own program with them, the look changes even more and it is hard to distinguish.
I recently got her in a trade from Mike Massey and she's a cb '02. The pic makes her look more red than she really is. So what would I be safe calling her then? Hypo miami or crimson?
You really would be safe calling her either one if you don't know for sure what line(s) she is from. Most people arn't sticklers about it lol. I hope I didn't make it seem more complicated than it really is. A lot of people use the terms interchangably. I think I would call her a Crimson though, keep in mind however, that is just my opinion. I am a bit more anal over it than most.
Yes,
Crimson corn and hypo Miami can be used interchangeably - they mean the same thing.
