First shed?????????

neon11 May 26, 2003 06:55 AM

Hi, my little guy is going through his first shed with me.I have a very nice humidity house for him that I have never personally seen him in (he might sneek in there when I am not looking). I was wondering if I should mist him right now, I am sure he would love that , or should I just leave him alone. Also what does a good or bad shed look like? Is there anything I should check for to make sure it comes off( I have a snake and always check for the eyelids and tip of tail)? Thank you.

Sometimes, I give them a mist or two if they aren't using their humidity box, but just a mist or two. I use that especially with the babies - since I just give them a pretty basic hide for the 1st month.

You probably won't even have to worry about the first shed at all. Healthy leos will shed well in a decent environment. Only when it's TOO dry, do they have problems. Things to look for are around his feet - you don't want shed left there. Everywhere else will be very obvious.

Good luck. Sounds like you're doing a great job raising this leo!!!

Well, if he isnt using it, just do what Monte said and give him a mist. I usually do that becuase none of my leos will use their humid hides. Also, when they start shedding, i have noticed that the shed skin is pretty moist and will peel off really easily for them. The only thing to worry about it if they break the skin and it gets stuck on a spot they cant get it off. Then it dries and that is when it gets stuck and is hard to get off.
