New shipping solution!

a153fish Aug 08, 2010 01:55 PM

I want to share with you guys, a new Reptile shipping Solution for anyone wanting to ship HARMLESS reptiles. I have heard good things about them and since SYR doesn't do snakes anymore thought some of you might be interested. I just became registered with them and it was super easy!

Yeah, I signed up to use their service as well. My only concern is .......how long will it be before some "jack-stick" ruins THIS sevice too!!!

With the general public, just the mere mention of the word "snake", and it becomes a freakin circus!, and that is all it seems to take.

I hope that printed "waiver" ticket thing they talk about works like magic if for some chance an ophiophobic clerk refuses to take the box because the dreaded "baby colubrid" is inside the secure box..LOL!

It's weird, if it was pornography and the clerk didn't like it at all, they would still be compelled to ship it out, but a freakin hatchling snake and it becomes a "keystone cop" episode for cryin out loud!!

Are we really ready to let Post Office or other MORONS to try and ID species?? Shoot, several people on this forum cant ID the snakes in their own backyards! You know who you are....LMAO. I dont count the loose rocks/ball pythons.

That's exactly what I am saying too!!

When I give some A$$-wipe clerk a box to be shipped, I want them to ship it, not quiver about what "they" might be afraid of inside.

A long time ago, there was a lady on TV that had a stupid weird fear of copper PENNIES of all things!!!.

Does that mean there should be a big fiasco with pennies too??

It's all about the insanity of the large percentage of the general public, and laws (and police) tend to heavily feel compelled to side with these irrational idiots as opposed to simply telling them to shut the hell up and deal with it. I don't give two craps what someone "thinks" about snakes, I don't need their unfounded fears interfering with what I do.

It's like sending a goldfish through the male and have some jerk clerk tell you they don't want to ship it because they have a terrible fear of sharks!

Yeah, I know, pretty strongly said there.

I just could never understand the absolute insanity that snakes seem to bring out in most people. Certainly not just the shipping part, but in general.

Doug, while I am with you in spirit, there is good reason to suspect shipping. I'm all for shipping illegal drugs and all, drive the price down etc, get the GOOD stuff up here to us Northern folk(LOL)....but the Kazinski's of the world have the rest of the public scared sh*tless. Lets solve it by creating some transparent material to replace cardboard.....SIMPLE.

DMong Aug 09, 2010 12:19 AM

Yeah, but Jeff, that could also create an entirely new set of problems too.

Just the mere SIGHT of a tiny cornsnake(or whatever) in a deli cup would send some folks through the ceiling in a sweaty panic, and they would have nightmares for several months afterwards.

I don't want to be responsible for their monthly counseling bills either..LOL!!

There will be "pit-falls" with just about anything you do when it comes to the public and the "dreaded" serpent.

I can also see some clown at a counter seeing the name "kingsnake" on a box label, and confusing it with the King Cobra too..HAHAHAAA!

When will the human ignorance ever end man?

Think of how the poor little snakes would feel in a transparent box being bonkled about roughly during shipping by scary monsters! If we can see them they can see us!

DMong Aug 09, 2010 05:23 PM

Yeah, and a clear in-insulated box would make "baked snake under glass" in very short order too in any sunshine whatsoever..LOL!

Cool packs still work dont they??

DMong Aug 11, 2010 11:19 AM

"Cool packs still work dont they??"

Yes, but so do conventional cardboard boxes with styrofoam insulation..LOL!

How would you know where and when(and how long) a clear container might be left in the sun in any situation during the course of shipping??

Everyone on earth being able to plainly see a snake would only be very counter-productive anyway in my opinion. It's already bad enough as it is when people only WONDER what's in a shipping box..LOL!

Scanners of some type will be used anyway before clear shipping containers would ever be used anyway. I just don't see them being very plausible, not to mention invented yet or affordable.

I have saved this site to my favorites in the event I should ever need to ship reptiles.

Can one just say "harmless reptiles" on the box instead of "harmless snake"? I have received most of my snakes in boxes labeled harmless reptiles, so it could be lizards or turtles or whatever to the delivery personnel.

a153fish Aug 08, 2010 09:11 PM

Well I just skimmed over some of the sections of the site but I think they require very specific labeling? With common name but There is a waiver right on the label so there is no quarreling about do they or don't thay ship snakes. Harmless snakes!

12. Label the outside of box with the Common Names, Scientific names and quantities of all animals you are shipping
Well, that is pretty explicit! LOL!

DMong Aug 08, 2010 09:53 PM

Their different sized shipping boxes all have "harmless reptile" on the box anyway.

That is all it should take too in my opinion. After all, a snake is a reptile.

. . . Ship Your Reptiles?

By the way, when I ordered some feeder lizards from Manny Hernandez, he shipped via USPS, and the box was labels with the species, and "Harmless Lizards".

I did get a funny look from the clerk when I picked them up, but nobody seemed to be freaked out about it.

So why won't USPS ship "Harmless Snakes"? I guess you don't hear of many folks with a fear of lizards.

From FedEx. People wanted a company to provide a service, if you went through the process to get certified you got that service.

People see another place or two pop up and they all turn thier backs on the company that agreed to help this industry in the first place.

I remember when most people could care less about the cost of shipping when it came to hand picking animals from any breeder. Now its all about saving 10 bucks.... I have never had any issues with F.E. that were not resolved the same day... and even if I did I still would not go elsewhere... they were the ones that helped this industry become what it is today...
