Can geckos catch a cold?

RedQuake Sep 24, 2003 05:13 PM

I've come down with a nasty cold......stuffy nose, sneezing etc. Can my geckos get sick at all? I'm handwashing alot, but they are all in my room now and since thats where i spend most of my time i'm wondering if thats enough to get them sick.

Thanks,
Red (literarily, got a red nose) hehehe

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

Lots of things are transferable between humans and reptiles, but usually anything that attacks your respiratory system won't be. I'm not clear on whether that includes colds or not, but call your vet and ask or just be careful, although it seems that if it were possible, we'd hear about it on the forums...

Thankyou i feel better about it, just wish my head and chest felt the same lol. I've worn myself out and its come back to bite me big time. With the SARS outbreak and all, getting any sort of respiratory infection is scary.....not that i have it or worry that i do, its just that working in the medical field the chances of bringing something like that home is higher than most. Honestly my animals are the least of my worries when it comes to this......my grandmother is my top concern but if there was a chance that my geckos could get sick i'd take the necessary precautions.

Thanks again
