CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

brick1 Aug 10, 2010 10:03 PM

Took a while to get the pictures up, days really need to be longer than 24hrs!!
This was the view when i first walked into the snake room, and i have realised now, some faults with these cages!! It took me quite a while to actually get to the babies, as i couldnt just slide the glass across

And just a few shots with the all piled up. Individual pics will follow in a week or so

Congrats they look great, that does look like quite a mission to get the little ones out. Is that normal to have such drastic shades of color between individuals in a single litter?

I can't wait to see that in my cage, she's 60 days in fromher POS so far and lookin good with a slight bulge.

Not totally normal to have such drastic ranges but also not uncommon.

To be honest, im not so sure about the differing colours. There pictures were taken very soon after birth though, and i imagine quite a few things will change when they shed out. And at least i should be able to get a clearer picture of what i have.
I am hoping to keep back all of the darker females though, for my hypo and anery projects. While of course we want really bright colours for the rainbows, i think using darker animals for these projects may throw some interesting results.

Thanks for a great morning laugh. I can only imagine how tough it was to get into that cage to get them out, can't slide either door. Did you end up lifting out the front door?

Congrats again, they look great!!

The way these cages are build, i cant actually take the glass out, so i managed to slide it a few inches across, and enough to get my hand in there. I then spent the next 20mins, with my hands and a snake hook for the ones right in the middle, trying to encourage them to move to a different position
The worst part about the whole situation, was that Tempest (the mum), didnt seem overly enthusiastic about my actions, and i really didnt want to get tagged by her, with my arm jammed tightly inside the cage. Luckily she behaved...
Pre shed pics coming tonight, probably.....

Nice babies! Congrats on the litter. LOL, I bet that was frustrating to get those babies un-wedged from that glass!

Congrats on the babies, sorry to see a few got abit stuck but glad you managed to free them.

Looks like an alright litter there, will be good to see them once they have all shed.

How many other litters are you expecting this year?

-----

brick1 Aug 12, 2010 10:25 AM

Hey Anthony,
i have 3 more litters over the next month. With another 2 more girls on top of that, that im still not 100% sure are gravid.
In theory, if those 3 go fine, there will be one litter of normals, 1 litter of hypos/hets, and 1 very private litter (everyone has their secrets

i see your collection is quite big these days, how many females do you have going?

cheers

Good luck with your next litters, i am expecting 1-2 more myself (due September).

Are you expecting a new morph or something in your private litter (surely you can give that much away lol)?

Can't wait until i have my 1st Hypo litter (sadly not for a while yet).

I have 11 sub adult-adult females with around 8 being breeding size.

Ive been bitten way too many times trying!!! (Dave how many times do you get bitten every baby season!!???!!!???) Your going to have to cope with aftershed pictures only.
Ive got weights though. These weights are for the 17 that have been put into their own tubs now. I do have one more tiny runt, that was born was a massive yolk sack, and im not sure if it will pull thru. (its currently on some extra heat and humidity, and has just lost the egg sack, we will see what happens with it) So i have not added it, as i dont want to bother it by weighing it. Total litter count was 18 live, 2 stillborn (also deformed) and 3 slugs)

1 x 22grams (the other runt, but completely agro, just tiny
4 x 34 grams
8 x 35 grams
1 x 36 grams
2 x 37 grams
1 x 39 grams

which gives a litter weight of 587 grams, and a average weight of 34.5 grams, not including the smallest runt with the yolk attached.
Dave or Jeff i would be interested to see if you have any litter details on weight. I have seen some data that you have posted before Dave on newborns weight, and from what i can remember, my average seems to be quite high compared to what i have seen.

this was about my best effort of getting a photo, before the snake tried to commit suicide by sliding off the edge (and yes i was using the under the waterbowl technique, which did not work this time

And their new homes, along with some yearlings at the bottom
Ive got more litters coming, and a trip home to australia in a month, so its going to be a crazy time getting all the caging ready. Living over here, there isnt really an option of a last minute phone call to the Boaphile or FreedomBreeder for some caging!!

Lol, easier to count how many times I get bit by each baby!!! I KNEW you were in for a surprise once they got their wits about them. Baby BRB's are VERY nippy lil critters. Within a month or two most of the nipping will be gone. That's the level most have experience with and even that can be a bit nippy for some.

Only going by what you said, I'd be concerned with the little one. Better that it lost the sack. Best you can do is keep it warm and damp and hope for the best.

Very decent birth weights. Probably more toward the heavy end. in my experience in the low 30's is pretty typical. My first litter (the aneries) were also on the heavy side. Probably a similar average weight.

For babies I use the hand cover/cup method. Use your palm as the cup and gently press down on the baby making a snug warm hide. You can feel when they settle down and YES, you will get bit!!! Did I mention baby BRB's are nippy?

Once they stop wiggling, you can take your hand off and BE QUICK taking the pics.

I'm definitely not showing your "mansions" to my babies, they might go on a hunger strike for larger condo's!!

Oh yes, they have mansions. The next couple of litters wont though

As i have written previously ive been fixing up a new snake room, and 90% of the snakes are now in it. Pretty much just the gravid girls that arent. The new baby racks are being built right now, and well, space is at a premium

Also considering that the new room, is in the building next to me, with maybe five 80yrs old ladies living in apartments above it, ive have to be very stealth to try and get all the animals and caging down there without anyone seeing.
While its completely allowed for me to have them here (have permission from the building), i really dont want an elderly bunch of women, knowing that there is close to 100 snakes below them

As for the biting, ah it doesnt really bother me. Its more that after the first few attempts it was just turning into a debacle!!! Forgetting what the bite feels like, its much better with the babies. At least you can see it coming. I have one or two bigger animals, that dont give you the warning signs before the tag.....
