Don't waste your time with CL. A few have gotten lucky, but a lot have gotten ripped of as well.

There are tons of reputable breeders here on the Kingsnake.com classifieds and at local shows. Buy from someone who cares about their reputation and your success.

craigslist isnt the place to go for good animals, here in michigan i look through it everyday and the *hity animals that are on there are very unhealthy, just last week someone posted for a cornsnake that is 4 years old and they have it eating 1 pinky mouse every month!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it still looked like a damn hatchling. they are pretty much neglected animals.

Definitely don't waste your time. After reading your post, I went through our local craigslist ads and found this gem:

"Female albino burmese proven breeder. About 7 foot a 09 baby. Very docile and was hand raised . Loves to be handled and roam around the house. Must rehome today. Rehoming fee applies. Email anytime. "

That's right, a proven breeder...that was born last year.

Actually, I have picked up several normal females from individuals selling adult snakes on craigslist. You will have to be willing to look through a bunch of junk to find something nice. I've turned down many snakes that were unhealthy or not as described but the ones I've purchased are now breeders. Picking up a 2600 gram female for 60 bucks isn't that bad of a deal. The snakes spent over a year in quarantine until I was sure they were healthy. I even picked up a giant "hypoish" male, for almost nothing, from a college student who was busted with it in his dorm. This ball is the largest male that I've ever seen in person. I hope to dedicate a female or two in the up coming season. Anyways, their is a lot of junk in the pet section but sometimes you can find the childhood pet that needs to be re-homed for a good price. Take a set of probes with you if you are looking for females...most owners have no idea what "Monty" or "Mr. Squeeze" really is.

If you are morph shoppin' I wouldn't bother with craigslist. There isn't much out there and I would rather purchase from someone who knows what they are doing and has a good reputation.

You have to check consistently because Craigslist people are insane and flag ads every 20 seconds. It's ridiculous.

You're not allowed to sell animals on craigslist, but you can rehome for a small fee...so you post them with a fee. Flagged. If someone posts them for free...flagged...because free animals can be tortured or used to train fighting dogs blah blah blah.

Plus...reptile ads in general seem to be targeted fast because Craigslist surfers are a$$es.

So yeah...you CAN find them...just be vigilant and lucky.

you always have to be careful my husband and i posted an ad for spider ball python babies and the first one was flagged the we restated or ad and sold 1.2 and then sold 3 normals on cl but we were very careful and met people in public places with or animals (our kids not the snakes) and the snakes to exchange money for snakes but we did ok.

I've had some luck with craigslist but you have to be careful. I got a large normal male for free because he struck the guy that had him one time. He was 5 years old, proven breeder, never struck before in his life. He was like an inch shy of 5 feet and over 2400 grams when I got him. The guy had him in a 10 gallon tank with another baby ball. Geez I'd bite too lol. Anyway, drove 2 hours to get him but he was worth it. Very gentle, never hisses, never strikes at us, converted to f/t no problem, and he's an excellent breeder. I also got a proven breeder Graziani pastel male for 75 bucks. In great health, eats f/t, nothing wrong with him. The guy who had him was just thinning out his collection and sold him cheap. But I've also seen people advertising pastels that are normals. My favorite is when people advertise normals and try to sell them for like 200 because they're "fancy" ball pythons. So yes, occasionally you can get lucky but you really have to check the ads frequently and don't be surprised if you find them advertised in other areas besides pets. You should also check local mom and pop pet stores. Sometimes they have adults or sub-adults they're willing to get rid of cheap just to make space in their shop. Good luck and be careful

A few years ago I got some GREAT deals from a guy on Craigslist.
I was a bit sceptical at first, but after he showed me his colletion, housing, and such I bought a few BPs from him for DIRT CHEAP.
I got an Adult Male Rupples Pastel for like 100 bucks, Remember this was about 3 years ago so Pastel were more at the time than they are now.
A bunch of 'Dinkers' and a nice little Normal Female!
But ive also seen ads with very unhealthy snakes.
I personally would avoid Craigslist, but if you are going to purchase a snake from it, make SURE you see it in person before you buy it.

It REALLY depends on the area you're from. I've been fortunate on CL in that there are a few "more than hobbyist" breeders in the area and they post what they have available (if the habitual flaggers didn't have a change to flag it yet). Once, I managed to pick up an adult pastel female for chump change. But with that said, I wouldn't suggest picking up snakes from CL as some of the previous posts have mentioned, the quality isn't the best.

sanchezk Aug 09, 2010 07:56 PM

I personally have bought some of my collection off of craigslist, a YB male, a proven breeder female, a pastel female, and a ghost male. All healthy from other hobbyists, but i agree with the crowd, for the most part it's people selling normals for ridiculous amounts, but some times you get lucky. I would never buy a het off of craigslist, unless i truly trusted the person though. A lot of them i found under the pets section, but if you search python under for sale or under community some times you find them posted in areas other than just "pets"...

c5wolves Aug 11, 2010 02:32 AM

Hey craigslist it is under the pets on the left side of the screen.

jamesalternafan Aug 11, 2010 01:49 PM

They were posted with an estate sale. The guy died and left a huge collection which his family did not know what to do with. I bought several and recommended they contact some local guys a put them in contact with.

It is really hit or miss. If you want normals craigslist or an animal control shelter is your place otherwise you just gotta get lucky.

I've purchased all kinds of critters on Craigslist. Since it is too hot for me to ship most of the summer, I've listed and sold some on Craigslist. Always meet in public places and take a friend. I've only met one or two scary people.
