A few St Louis zoo pics

trsatrtr Aug 09, 2010 08:31 PM

Just thought I would share some pics of the Jamaican iguanas at the St Louis zoo. Pics were taken with my phone so they aren't the best.

Very interesting iguanas and nice pics, however I have to question the zoo keepers knowlege in keeping such a rare species on bark chippings. I KNOW igs find that on the wild but Ive herd of so many stuff happening because of bark chips, from the clishé gastrointestinal blocage or injury, to igs getting a chunk of bark lodged inside a hemiphenial sack :/ no good stuff. Very fine substrate like a peat/dirt mix or big rocks its the way to go with these guys.

Its an interesting point. Recently while writinchg a paper on chameleons I did a research paper search on Cyclura via my university's ebsco search engine and came across only ONE article on Cyclura from Jan 2010 on the phylogony of C. nubila and how it radiated to other islands etc...

It was exciting to see that there is not much written on them, and gives me great hope for future reasearch!

yupp someone really needs to take a closer look at cyclura genetics and see how they really did the Island hopping

you need to look at or pick up, Iguanas: Biology and Conservation by Alberts
that part is pretty well covered

Excellent! I had this book a long while back but it got lost at some point during a move. I could not remember the name or author, only the picture on the front. Thank you for this post, as it has saved me a frustrating search for a book with only the front cover to go by.
