Hi Jason,
I am no expert by any means so I usually let someone else answer but I just went through this with one of my chams about a month ago so maybe I can help, but check with everyone else also.
One eye closing for periods of time (like closing the eye and holding it closed while the other one stays open) can be a bad sign. It can be caused by lots of things but my vet told me it can be very serious so you should not delay in trying to figure out what is causing it. Some things it can be from are organ failure (such as kidneys) wrong temps, over supplementation with calcium and vitamins, under supplementation, problems with husbandry ect. I would go over everything and make sure your setup is fine. Another thing to look for is does the poop look normal. Does the white part of the poop look white? If it looks bright peach or pink this could be kidney problems. Make sure he is getting enough water daily. Mine has problems using his dripper system and I have to drip some water on his head daily to make sure he is getting enough to drink. It could also be an infection or abcess in his head or mouth. I would take him to a vet soon. I would get an appointment ASAP because delaying could make things worse. There are also some good vet articles on www.mythicalchameleons site. Look at the top where it says vet topics. www.chameleonjournals.com also has good medical articles and some about over supplementation. Make sure it is eye closure you are seeing and that the eye stays closed for periods of time while the other one remains open. They can blink with one eye only and he could have something irritating his eye too and is trying to blink it out. Hope I was able to help you and good luck with your chameleon. Mine (Galileo) is not having the eye closure problem anymore and is doing well so don't panic they can recover from it. I'm sorry this was so long.
