Bull Snake Eggs at Day 74...hurry up!

FL_Herps Aug 11, 2010 07:53 PM

Here's just a quick shot of my Bull Snake eggs currently at Day 74. They had been incubating in the high 70s (77-79), but as of the weekend I have raised the tmeps to the low 80s (~82) just to try to hurry things up a bit without risking the health of the babies.

Anyone have anything to say about them? Still look mostly fine (the bit of mold on the top right one has stayed like that for several weeks and has not spread any further).
Any sign of them hatching soon?

Damn...this is the worst part of the wait! lol

Also, here's an old shot of the parents back when they were just babies themselves (they've obviously both gotten much nicer since then):

I've always hatched eggs with a temp range of 78-82; at that range it depends where the animals originated. Upper midwest animals usually would hatch at around 48-55 days, Colorado snakes usually would go at 54 days like clockwork, Canadian snakes at 57-61 days. Pines always took the longest to hatch at around 59-65 days, Gophers at 55-61 days. An incubation of 74 days does seem like a long time; when hatching times are long my experience is that all eggs you're incubating will be late, regardless of genus. The third egg on the top doesn't look good.
