2010 BRB pics 1st Litter

Miloradovich Aug 12, 2010 01:10 PM

Well it has been a busy and productive season for me this time around. I've been fortunate and had 3 great litters of BRB's, 2 different salmontine litters, a hypo sonoran litter, some black russian sand boas, ball pythons with more set to hatch soon, and I should be seeing rosy boas litters this month! All and all, I've been keeping really busy but I finally got around to getting some individual shots of this year's baby rainbows and thought I would share them with the forum. Please enjoy and let me know what you all think. I may post some of the off topic stuff too when I get a more photos taken.

These are the babies from the May 28th litter. Total count is 6.3

Thanks for looking!

Congrats on a huge pile of babies! Man, you got some nice sized litters! Out of all of them, this one stood out to me the most due to the tightly packed crescents:

I still don't understand how people can get BRB litters in May.

My favorite one also. Jason done good with all them nice litters of snakes.

Miloradovich Aug 13, 2010 09:40 AM

Thanks for the kind words Jeff. I really appriciate it, especially coming from someone who has produced as many great litters of rainbow as you have.
Seems we have a consensus on that little male. Maybe I'll have to consider keeping him here for the future.
What do you have cooking this season?

Miloradovich Aug 13, 2010 09:35 AM

Thanks Aubrey, and congratulations to you on your het hypo litter. How are your other pairings progressing?
I am still amazed at the size of these litters myself. Definately exceeded my expectaitions and hopes for them. That little guy is a nice one. I think some of these will mature quite nicely and am anxious to see them as they grow a little bit.
As for early litters, I just put them together early I guess. I love it though. I have always thought it would be cool to space out my breedings of the different things I am into to try and get babies as spread out as possible so I always have something new to play with. In 2008 I had my first baby snakes arrive in April and the last in October. Of course right in the middle is still always the busiest and did seem strange to get 2 BRB litters this year before my first BCI litter was on the ground!

Wow, everyone is having babies at the moment. Like aubrey, i think i like the 1st litter the best aswell.
Thats a fair few babies you have, from just 3 litters!!! Im guessing yours dont get mansions like mine

Thanks Dave and you are right, no mansions for me. I say maybe low income apartment housing since I built them all myself to save money, lol. I keep all the baby rainbows in shoebox size tubs. Seems to do well for them in the begining.
Congratulations on your litter earlier this month as well. Like yours, this didn't stirke much right in the begining but I took quite a few bites getting these shots taken. Thats one reason I like doing it with the rock. Seems to give them something to hang onto and feel somewhat more secure so they stay a little more stationary for our photo shoots.

Thanks Cliff, I appriciate the kind words. I didn't weigh these right after birth but would guess they were in upper 20's lower 30's gram range with the first litter being on the smaller side and larger babies coming from the 2nd two litters.
I think I owe the caliber of the babies in the 1st litter all to the mom. She's a gorgeous adult in my opinion. Here's a shot of her.

Hey Jason,

Congrats on all three litters, I'd have to agree with Cliff, litter one looks like the best!! Too bad it's so male heavy but that may be why it looks so good overall. I've found there is a average visual difference between males and females where the average male is better colored than the average female. Not a lot, but enough that there are more stunning males than stunning females.

Thanks Dave!
Thats an interesting observation about the males and funny that you brought it up today. Just this last Tuesday I was visiting a buddy of mine who has bred a nice super salmon female 4 or 5 years in a row now and he had mentioned that the best looking out the litters are consistently the males. Not something I have ever paid much attention too but you can bet I will now!

rainbowsrus Aug 13, 2010 03:14 PM

Yeah I've said it for years, picking out a male hold back is hard because there are several great candidates, picking out a female hold back is hard to find that great candidate.
