We were wondering if this beautiful little snake was ever going to calm down or if she was always going to be out for blood. We had noticed night before last that she had cleared up and her neck had tightened back up. The next morning I went to do my normal morning cleaning of the snakes that pooed over night and she had shed. I always take pics of her after shedding to see how she has been progressing and this morning was no different. I grabbed the trusty snake hook that she has required since getting her. This little girl usually has been striking with no warning and pretty much throwing herself her whole body length to try and bite anything. A couple of times she has bit herself trying to get at me. She is the only snake under a foot and a half that has ever dropped me to my knees. She bit me right on the pinky finger on the side of the nail and wrapped my finger up like it was an actual meal. Funny thing is this boa chews. Finally a little alcohol on the gums got her to let go.
Now to yesterday. It was a nice morning in WA state and I wanted to get her outside for the first time since I got her. (around Dec of 09') I hooked her out and decided I was going to try and hold her like I normally did. Only this time, to my surprise, she was extremely calm. Not sure if it was getting out in the sun or what but she is finally a snake we can hold. Here are a couple shots that I got outside before I actually got to hold her for like 20 minutes without a hint of any aggression.

and then a shot of me actually holding her without being in fear of losing blood...

Thanks for viewing. We are really excited to see how this girls progresses. She looks like she is going to have a burnt orange back, cream sides, and a red reverse stripe tail when she is older. She is starting to get these burnt orange flecks all down her back but not on the sides. Pretty wild looking. Needless to say we are happy that we can actually hold this beautiful snake now. Funny what a difference a day makes. The day before she did her little wild strike when I opened her drawer. Have a good afternoon.
