I have eggs pipping, but.......

basssnatcher34 Aug 12, 2010 05:49 PM

I noticed last night that my eggs were starting to pip. This morning I found several had there heads sticking out. I had two eggs that were cut but for some reason no movement. I found a total of 3 still born babies out of 9. One of the still borns was almost completely developed and yolk sac was being absorbed but for some reason he didnt make it. I am thinking it drowned. The other 2 still born were not developed all the way and had alot of yolk sac left. The other six with there heads out seem to be healthy. Nothing too special but it is the first clutch that was hatched with my son and I. That alone makes it special enough. They are Apalachicola/Intergraded(blotched/Eastern) cross babies.

Congrats on your first clutch...even if you only got one snake it's still your first...

All I can say is ---- happens,,,,
It happens to the best of us. There's nothing you should do any differently next year. It seems sometimes first time females lay infertiles or there's issues with the babies [and of course many first timers just produce like champs too].

I say you guys still did OK, not everyone even gets eggs at all on the first try. I personally recall getting eggs and botching the incubation. We all start somewhere...I hope the others hatch out for you.

Thanks Tom. I have been messing with reptiles almost 30 yrs, this is my sons first clutch with me. He is learning the ropes and he likes it so far. But like you said, even if it was just one it would still be a success because my son was involved. Next year will be better. Bigger incubator and better snakes in the future....lol
