Excellent..how do the genetics work exactly? Thank you for sharing this animal with us.

eabele Aug 12, 2010 08:34 PM

Hi,

the gene works with a heterozygous form (raptorboa) and a homozygous form (super). This means if you breed 2 raptors together you will statistically get 50% raptors 25% superraptors and 25% noncarrying normals.

Breeding a raptor to a normal gives 50/50 raptors/normals and using a superraptor gives 100% raptors, or even 50% superraptors if you breed it to a raptor.

To cut it short, it works just like all other incomplete dominant genes.

After taking a second and third look the Raptor and Super Raptor have an appearance similar to an Aztec and Super Aztec but doubt they're genetically related. The Raptor boa is amazing but that Super Raptor is off the chart's and very beautiful plus those red eye's on the Super Raptor are to die for. I'm very impressed with them and think there're going to make some incredible combo's in the future. Congratulation's on a job well done, but more importantly working the project for as long as you did. Show's a huge amount of integrity you devoted 6 years of your life to bring us these gorgeous boa's. Take care and continued success in the year's to come. Andrew

Andrew,

thanks a lot for your post. It is very important that people understand how the Raptorboa works and I think you just nailed it! I also think the Aztecs & Raptors have some things in common, but there are also differences that tell they are not the same & both have their advantages.

Off course I did a lot of thinking the last years and I am wondering what you think of my thoughts:

I believe that connected pattern morphs are all on the same spectrum, though not exactly on the same gene/alleles. Actually aztec, motley, arabesque, roswell, key west & raptor are all showing the same effect though not exactly have the same appearance & colors. I think some have more extreme effect, like motley were the Super is completely black/patternless and the heterozygous is also more extreme muted than the other connected morphs.

Incomplete dominance is actually something that is like mathematics, and I've thought to express it in numbers. Let me try to explain that one.

I think the more extremely muted the heterozygous form is, the more patternless the Super becomes. This is probably why your Super Aztecs are even patternless sometimes. Your aztec is probably a 3 on "the scale of connecting" (Man... does that make sence?). Your super is a 3 3=6. Like for reference an arabesque would be 1 1=2 and for example the motley would be 4 4=8. The Raptor I consider 2 2=4.

What do you say about all this?

Anyway I've loved your Aztecs since I saw them for the first time and I especially like those heavy patterned specimens Aren't morphs the greatest thing?

Eabele.

Sounds good to me. Thanks for the time to post your thought's. Take care and good luck in the thing's you love to do. Andrew

Being that I am a numbers guy, I really like your approach. It was an interesting from a rarely used mathematical point of view.

Hey I really enjoyed your vid you post on your website! You seem like a very down to earth cool kinda guy! It's nice to hear that your relationship with reptiles and life were very close to mine growing up im 26 also. Any ways keep us posted on more news about the beautiful RAPTOR BOA.

breedings pics, size of the adults, ...are missing. May be the web site isn't finished or these informations are allready in the 'book'. Every body doesn't have the book !
I am found of babies in the 'goo 'and some much more than me, any pics of super, hets and wild type together in the goo or hets and super ?

Thanks.

bereal Aug 14, 2010 12:37 PM

Great snake for starters, but is there only 1 so called ""super"" born? cause on that site i see the same snake as super shown a couple of times and with now further information.

your years of waiting and breeding would give some inside IMO and as several people have asked
Please help us with diff goo-pics,parents,breedings done etc etc? to understand your raptorboa genetics.

Could be interesting, could also be just a nicely linebred boa.

but still nice, never the less
