Ananconda question.

houseofscales Aug 13, 2010 09:17 AM

It is painfully obvious to me that the anaconda mutation is highly variable. With that being said, What is the determining factor that guarentees that it is an anaconda hog. I am posting a picture of a het hypo male from last year that other than a little color in his belly stripe looks as good or better than some anacondas I have seen posted for sale. Please, your thoughs and info would be great,Ted.

Hey Ted,
Firstly, that is a great looking hog with a real nice pattern...

Although the pattern could resemble some of the condas I have seen, I can tell you what makes me know it is not a conda...

#1 On the belly the "checker board" pattern extends boldly past the black... Some condas will have some color in the belly but the difference is pretty obvious...

#2 The patter, although a bit reduced and aberrant, it is still normal...

#3 The neck patterns on condas always seem to be very reduced and distorted...

thank you.I have a one in my collection she is an anaconda het hypo and will be bred next year, I also can see the differences you spoke of ,it just seems they are so variable and no one shows the belly shot when putting them up for sale. Some are so obvious that it doesn't matter others should be shown, thanks for the input.

The anacondas I've seen online seem to have a reduction or absence of lateral blotching on each side. Although difficult to tell from the angle of the shots, the pictured snake seems to have normal represenation of lateral blotching, despite dorsal saddles that seem somewhat reduced.

Is reduced lateral markings a true characteristic of anacondas or are some now being produced that look closer to this snake?

Thanks,
Adam
