From my Blizzard het Diffused x Anery Lavender.

The Blizzard was bought as possible het Anery and Lavender but unfortunately did not prove out. My Anery Lavender however turned out to be het Albino which is cool.

All babies have normal patterns except one which has a really cool pattern and is a definite keeper. It's a normal, but is 100% het Albino, Anery, Charcoal, Lavender, and 50% possible het Diffused. I'll also keep back one of the Albinos, haven't figured out which one yet.

I wonder why this one ended up with such a neat pattern when all the others have normal patterns?

In the group shot the babies are in a large clear deli, they are not just plunked on top of the hova bator like it looks LOL...

All but two of my 2nd clutch are out of their eggs so I took a few more group shots before separating them into their individual containers. Keeping back the normal one with the cool pattern and also ended up with an Albino that has a neat pattern which I picked as my 2nd keeper. I hope one is a male and the other a female... haven't checked yet. I now have the daunting task of getting all 40 baby corns eating...

Yes, something that not everyone gives very serious thought to well beforehand. Not to mention the individual housing, cleaning, watering, etc...

I had just two corns last year lay a whopping 58 eggs!!!. A monster pile of 37 from one big female, and another nice pile of 21 from another W/C female,....and BOY!, most of them where REAL pains in the arse to get eating, no matter what tricks I pulled..LOL!

Gosh, sometimes things go smooth as silk, and other times it is like a bumpy ride while pulling teeth!

I bred Cali Kings twice and the babies probably would have started eating when they were still in the eggs with just their heads out. They had Phenomenal feeding responses. Meant getting bit alot but I didn't mind since they were such great eaters.

I've tried one round of feeding so far with the fist batch of corns that hatched and have had their first sheds and they had NO interest in eating. That's when it hit that this might be a bit tougher than the Cali Kings were.

I'm feeding them in separate small deli cups since they are bedded in Aspen. If that won't work I might have to dump out all the Aspen and switch to paper towels in their enclosures so I can try to feed them right in their enclosures.

I put the snake and a pinky in a small paper sack secured with a clothes pin. Seems to work most of the time. Of my eight hatchlings, two have shed and eaten so far.

I know I don't have the daunting task of some of you who have more hatchlings to feed!!

Tried to feed 8 of them today, one of the Anerys ate. Happy at least one ate. Looks like I'll be throwing away alot of pinkies till they all get eating good... I figure every day I'll offer food to some of them rather than trying to feed all 40 on one day. I've heard of people doing the bag thing. I think it works because it's a small dark space. That's kind of what I do with the little deli's, it's a small space, then I cover the deli's with a cloth so they are in the dark.

Sometimes it takes a week or more after their first shed before they begin feeding. Dont stress because they failed to feed on the first attempt. Wait a week and try again. My little anery I held back this year waiting about three weeks after shedding before she took her first meal. Another "trick" you can try with the f/t pinks is to defrost them at room temp or near a heat source. Some appear to not like taking the ones defrosted in hot water for some reason. Maybe they smell more appealing when not defrosted in water???

I've been hearing this more and more, so are you guys actually thawing the mice/rats directly in the water? I have always put the feeders in zip lock bags and then put the bags in the warm water to defrost. I guess I never even thought of putting them directly in the water.

Just interesting I keep hearing this. Makes me think of that nasty warm ratty water that's left over.. eek

In the past I've had great success with the paper bag trick!

I don't envy the original poster tho, 40 to get going is quite a hassle! I only have 9, so far 3 ate first shot f/t mouse pinky, just 6 more to go... lol

I put my rats/mice out and actually thaw at room temp, then just toss in warm water for a few seconds for the little pinks or a few minutes for the larger adult rats to warm them up. Tossing them from the freezer into hot water tends to almost "cook" them, I've tried that, they get all tuff and weird. So I thaw them out first then don't use super hot water so I'm not cooking them so much...

I guess I got spoiled with the Cali Kings, they all ate first time, I'm not panicking but am anxious for them all to get eating. Want to take them to a show in a month and want to be sure they get a meal or two before trying to sell them...

Next year I'm only breeding ONE pair of Corns... It's been fun watching these guys hatch but 40 is a bit much to care for when I work 6 days a week and also have baby balls to get feeding as well...

Oh yeah, I don't put them in hot water, just luke warm water. Hot water cooks them like you said and I've seen their insides bust out if they get too hot, just warm water and change the water every 10 min or so.

BTW, I didn't say it in the first post, but Congrats on the babies!!

Had better results last night, offered food to 7 of them and 5 of them ate. Cool. Been meaning to ask, I used to correspond with a Kevin M who I met (not in person, just through Kingsnake) due to our mutual interest in Gray Band snakes. That was many years ago and I had username "Lyn" back then. Unsure if you are the same Kevin M or not. Did you used to have Gray Bands?
