So I picked up a nasty little beast the other day at Animal Control. Let me tell you, I am convinced kingsnakes do not have teeth, because by all rights this little turd should have me bleeding.

I will cut him slack however. He was fed one small live mouse every 2-3 weeks, so I am sure he is starving. Apparently he would REFUSE Frozen, but according to owners, thats ok, because well it was cheaper to do live. HURM I am thinking free live from back yard.

Anyhow, thought you would all enjoy the newest rescue resident. I rarely name the rescue snakes, they get numbered, but who ever makes me curse and slam my head on my desk will earn rights.

They said he refused thawed? I have seen some locality black&white male Cals refuse thawed at certain times of the year, namely Summer.

However, it is a Cal king, and that means it will eat just about anything that smells like anything. Even if not now, maybe in a month or two.

I had one attack my shoe. Cal kings are fun.

i'll get punched some day because i can't keep from laughing sometimes--going up stairs behind a kid having to hold his pants up, for example.

then I remember how much my dad hated my "hippie hair" in the 60s and 70s. And I see my nephew with his boxers showing--on the golf course! And i realize it's all just what we're used to, what we're not.

society WILL survive this, doug.

"society WILL survive this, doug"

Normally I would certainly agree, and all the things kids have always done in the past seems totally bizarre to the parents and grand parents the previous generation. But I just can't IMAGINE the mentality of these kids growing up to be old men with their pants worn like that. The mentality that I continuously see that goes along with it seems so worthless to me.

anyway, I hope you are right, I really do for the sake of this country!. I don't eally have a whole lot of faith any more from what I continuously see.

The mentality that I continuously see that goes along with it seems so worthless to me.

I agree 100% Doug.

It is immorality in general . just watch at any old movies from the 50's and 60's. respect, honor, chivalry. There were certain bondaries that people dared not even think of crossing. And this is just in common conversation. Women had their rold and men respeected woman. People just did not go where we go today in our thoughts and general way of thinking.

I wish it were the same and things could go back to the way they were. We wouldn't have open homsexualty kissing on TV, kids would not get arrested for bringing a butter knife to school for their lunches, the NEWS media would respect certain bondaries and human privacy, pornography in television, open sexual relationships without marriage is everywhere, womens rights movement, HA HA HA! I could go on..

the results are we have almost complete destruction of the family . Bring down the family, family values and morals you bring down a nation. Then we let the public shool system raise our kids and teach them all sorts of crap until they actually think they are educated and belive the stuff they have been fed for over 30 years.

history repeats itself. The consequences are that our nation will fall unless we form a militia and take back this countries basic Christian values which they were founded on. But that ain't gonna happen because most "men" (LOL) don't have any backbone or real morlas anymore. They are cowards and selfish generation who seeks their own evil desires..

The breed of men that fought in WWI an WWII are almost gone. Those were the real last men. The ones that lived and survived in Foxholes and knew there was a real personal God who wnats a realtionship with us and not arguing over evolution and aagainst an old earth.

Sure we have a few good men who are serving in our armed forces. But they can't control our morality and politics. They just follow orders and try their best to preserve what is left of this country. I salute them as well. But they are not like the men of old who would take up arms and form a militia to overtake our current leaders. All those gun NRA freaks are Pu$$ys who will talk all day about goevernment taking guns away from their cold dead hands. But when the sheet hits the fan they will throw their guns out the door to protect themselves from being arrested and thrown into prison.

Go watch Braveheart and Gran Torino.

because the 50s and 60s were great if you weren't a white male? Because our eugenics program (going back to the 30s) were wonderfully ethical/moral? Because the zoot suit riots of the 40s were great examples of cultural morality? Because our cold war era strategies lead us to treat other places and people so morally? Because the Tuskegee experiment was such a wonderful case of ethics?

People are monsters. An individual person may be good or bad, but you get a recognized socially acceptable scapegoat and people (collectively) will tear them apart and treat them like crap. If you have a culturally accepted underdog--someone it's safe to beat up on and look down on--their lives will be hell. That hasn't changed and I doubt it ever will.

I don't even know what a zoot riots is. I don't foillow every ethinic gang. Where i grew up it was Sotel . When i moved to Hawaii the culture was different from the mainland. The United states as a whole is what i am talking about..

It is the overall morality that is displayed or allowed in society that is accpeted. Just watch the news or any show on TV. Then if you want a real shock go watch a movie made just 50 years ago.Wow what a diffeence.

Yes certain individuals are monsters. But we all need forgivness. It is the heart that is most deceitful.

Doug,
You ever seen the Clint Eastwood movie Gran Torino? I saw it recenlty and I really liked the contrast of the three generations seperating the young and old. How the old man (Clint)still hated gooks and all the stuff that just does not change in us "older" men.

Sometimes I think the best thing that could happen is resinste the draft and send all thse young punks into battle. Lets see how many come back wearing their pants down below their kneees with the underwear sticking out.

BTW IMO that sort of style of wearing pants should be under criminal indecent exposer law. I have a 7 year old daughter and one day a couple guys came over to the park she was playing and stood there bending over as she was watching them. I almost went over there and slapped the junk out of them. I have been known to do that when men use profanity around my daughter. I ee women talking like that to..Like in a store when they are talking on their cell phone and swearing and cussing up a storm. they are completly ignorant (or really don't care)of the fact there is a child in ears range. When i mention something they yell some profanity and make it a racist issue. Class act these "americans" these day.

Yeah, I can picture the punk "jits" running for their lives in a battle situation pulling their pants up every other step as they are screaming, and dropping their rifles as they blunder along!!..LMAO!!

Dude!, I could NOT agree more with every single thing you just said!!

The stuff we both see now makes my freakin blood boil out of my ears!

Those points were absolutely SPOT-ON!!!

Your rhetoric forces me to be argumentative when there's so much we agree on (more at the bottom of this)

>>... our nation will fall unless we form a militia and take back this countries basic Christian values which they were founded on...

I didn't see that coming. I don't want anyone's militia marching in to take MY government at gunpoint. How could those people be so conceited as to believe they and they alone possess a "truth" so indisputable it warrants taking from others by force?

>>But that ain't gonna happen because most "men" (LOL) don't have any backbone or real morlas anymore. They are cowards....

Most of the time when i hear people say something like this it turns out they mean people who don't think the way they do have no morals and are cowards. That's not logical. (and as an aside, i'll bet there are plenty of young men serving courageously in the Middle East who let their pants sag before they entered the military).

..Then we let the public shool system raise our kids and teach them all sorts of crap until they actually think they are educated and belive the stuff they have been fed for over 30 years.

Texts and classes 30-50 years ago reflected a white, Christian, male society to the exclusion of much of society. Varanid's post provided a nice checklist. Today's schools better address reality and that constitutes better, not worse, education. I find plenty to criticize about our schools. But teachers' intentions and content are not the problem.

So what do we agree on? I experience the same culture shock you do. I admire the greater dignity people used to exhibit. I wish our young people hadn't been dragged down by an entertainment industry that sometimes panders. I wish we all could do better, be better people. We won't be that by hiding our heads in the sand. Maybe just by being the best we can be.

rtdunham Aug 18, 2010 09:40 PM

.... But I just can't IMAGINE the mentality of these kids growing up to be old men with their pants worn like that.

fear not, bucko. i'm not wearing my hair the way i did in the 60s and most of us aren't sporting mullets. We outgrow it. Or go bald. I don't think we'll see a bunch of guys in their 60s and 70s someday with their canes & bifocals & boxer-shorts-sticking-out.

DMong Aug 18, 2010 10:14 PM

...Yes, but we ARE talking about people that have some sort of common sense to begin with though.

If you go around in public wearing your pants and underwear like that and babbling undiscernable jibber-jabber ebonics, I don't think they will have enough sense to change later either..LOL!

Only time will tell though, but that is only if this place lasts long enough for them to GET old!

I keep stuff that most people shy away from and call aggressive. Bloods, Carpets and the Retic (ok so I cant really admit to the retic because technically he is a "rescue" here for use at the state fair which ended last week and he fits so nicely in the cage that I plan on keeping him until hubby makes me send him back from where he came)..

I am quite sure he will settle in fine and probably start taking F/T from the first meal. NEVER had a problem with these guys. My thoughts is it is more the kids wanted to feed live and just claimed it was live fed only. I figure I will let him settle in until I am back from daytona. That is a little over a week past coming in. Then offer him as much as he wants.

Mayhaps one day he will actually be able to do something with those pitiful bites of his. PFFT

Cindy, he'll probably settle down after a few good meals in his belly. I picked up one from the local animal shelter last fall that had been left in an apartment when the resident moved out. When he was brought to the shelter he was nearly starved. They kept and rehabed him for a couple of months before putting him up for adoption. Our shelter has a good reptile person. When I picked him up he still had a tent shaped body and was nippy. Today, he has been placed on a diet and is a real laid back guy. Sired two great clutches of babies. I'd post a pic, but I'm embarrassed I got him so fat...
