Room heaters...

geckobabies Aug 17, 2010 01:38 AM

Hi guys,

I know a lot of people use oil heaters to heat their reptile rooms.. but I was wondering if anyone that does could give me some advice and actual models they use. I want something that I can hook up to a helix I guess?

The room is 20' x 20' approximately and is fully finished.

Thanks!

I like Helix, but they are too small for that. They listed a heavy duty model but I don't think it really exists. Use a Johnson, I like them better than Ranco because they will do a night drop. Contact Rich at Reptile Basics, he has them with the night drop connected. I use oil heaters from Home Depot, Pelonis is the brand. Use the lowest setting that will keep your room the temp you want.

I live in the North, about how much would it cost a month to run one of these heaters?

I've been using oil filled heaters for a few years during the winter and my electricity bill is still cheaper in the winter than summer. Oil filled heaters are very efficient so I don't know how much it costs to run them, but it's not much. And they seem to keep a more consistent temp than other types of heaters.

Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know of a model number that is good? I am guessing that any of them will work hooked up to a temp controller?
