Feeder fish

solfugid Sep 24, 2003 08:00 PM

Would it be ok if i gave my savannah monitor lizard some feeder fish? If so, should it be goldfishbought at a local pet store, or feeder fish bought at a bait shop?

I tried feeder fish years ago on some boscs and they couldnt catch them as well as didnt eat many. Goldfish have little nutritional value. If you had a nile and wanted feeder fish Id say minnows or loaches are a world better to feed to them. Feed rodents, peeps, roaches, crickets, etc.

I know I am not an expert, I am just only a beginner and have been with bosc monitors for a year now, I tried feeding my bosc fish a few times, he will take a few nibbles and bites but he drops it and leaves it alone. I tried giving him a little bit of tuna fish once (albacore) and he only ate about 1/8 of what is in the can. He likes, SHvar just said, mice. My bosc loves mice, I think its the best nutrition out of every food I have given my bosc. When I started feeding mice in June he starting growing more and more. Hes grown 9 inches since then and I believe it fills him up more but without making him too obese.
