OT Boa Giving Birth

Paul_D Aug 18, 2010 06:02 PM

My Dumerils Boa Cleopatra had her first litter today, and I was lucky enough to be here when it happened. She had 2.2 babies and no stillborn.

Here is a group photo I snapped. See if you can find all the heads

I was also able to record some of the babies coming out. More footage to come later.

It's common for Dumerils Boas to have larger litters than this. However, this is Cleopatra's first litter and she has a few more years till she's full grown. Another thing to keep in mind is that baby Dumerils are born much larger than BRBs. The 4 babies weighed 88g, 80g, 72g, and 70g. Something else that's interesting is that Dumerils Boas have their first shed right after being born.

Here is a video clip of one of the babies breaking through the egg sac:

Thanks Dave,

I feel really fortunate that I was here to watch the litter come out. I'll take some individual pictures of the babies tomorrow. Here is a video of another one of the babies coming out.
