Silly Question for you all but....

bizzy Sep 24, 2003 08:28 PM

Hey,
I have a blizzard female and she is very sweet and everything but she has somewhat of an eating disorder... She only eats 1-3 worms a week and other than that she acts completely fine. I know some geckos are just like that. Ive taken her to the vet and they said nothing is wrong. Anyhow I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Thanx,
Bizzy

I don't think its a silly question!

I have one male and one female blizzard. The female is anything but sweet, she screams and tries to bite when i go into her tank for any reason, BUT she eats alot. My male blizzard lets me pick him up, even crawled up my arm today, but he only eats 1-2 mealworms every couple of days, if that. He will go after crickets though.

The difference in personality and eating behaviours between my 7 geckos blows me away sometimes. They are all very different geckos. My blizzards are the only ones that concern me with one being so aggressive and the other very picky about food.

If the vet said everything is Ok i think it probably is. Have you tried other food items like crickets? Do you have any pics?

Hope she starts eating more

Hello,
Thanx for replying so quickly. I have tried crickets, mealies, waxworms, and silkworms. She lays down and watches them and then turns her head, Sometimes she stricks but its always a draw... Also my camera is out of batteries but I'll check and see if I can find one.
Thanx again,
Bizzy

Weird that she wouldn't take any of those insects, espcially the waxworms. I want to try waxworms with my male but as of today, no one i called or went to had any in stock. I'm hoping he'll take the waxworms so i can put their scent on some mealworms and trick him into eating them. A few of the crickets escaped his bowl and hid......the next morning i found a few of his mealworms gone. He got hungry enough to eat them, maybe thats all it will take. As for your girl, i'm not sure. I've read a few posts about the change of the season slowing down their eating. You could also try handfeeding, holding the insect in front of her nose. If she is eating something, isn't losing weight and the vet said she's fine, i really don't know what else to suggest. But i do hope she starts eating more

Neither of my blizzards will come out of their hides to eat when the lights are on, even if its just the night lites i have set up. All must be dark and quiet All of my other geckos will come out to their dishes if i enter the room or get close to their tanks and i'm feeding them alot.

I'm not sure whats up with the blizzards. Even my albino, Abby, will come out into the light to eat. I've also caught her watching me while i'm at the computer. She's very curious. Both of the blizzards are skiddish

I was able to take some pics of Bronx (male blizzard) today and i'm hoping to get pics of all of my geckos tomorrow. I'll post them as soon as i get them developed
