Some have already seen it, but I thought I'd still share. I'm too excited NOT to share
***A note, if you want to watch the videos, they take a while to load on YouTube. Scroll down to the bottom of this post and open in them in a new window/tab so they can start loading now while you read the post. Just tryin' to save you some time

Rose delivered a litter of 17 healthy babies and I watched the WHOLE THING! It was SO INCREDIBLY cool
This is her 3rd litter in 4 years. First litter was 15 babies no slugs in '07, second litter was 11 babies and 1 slug in '08, she got '09 off, and this year was 17 babies and 2 slugs. Three different sires so the babies are well outcrossed!
I came into the room this morning and noticed she had made a small nest in the back right corner of the cage (the cool side). But she wasn't stretched out... yet...
I came back about an hour and a half later and she was all stretched out across the back of the cage with her cloaca sitting right in the middle of the "nest" she built. I also noticed her having contractions. THAT was neat. It was similar to a water ripple, but obviously slower. It started at her midbody and went down towards the cloaca.
That's when I turned on the video camera
I got video of the contractions, but I'm not sure how evident it will be yet, I haven't watched it.
The entire birthing process took about 40 minutes. There were two slugs in the litter that I'm SURE slowed the process down. In fact, the first thing out was a slug. When I saw that, I went into a DEEP dark depression that lasted a few seconds until the next thing out I saw was a baby
Because I video taped the whole thing, I didn't take any pictures of the birth. It's a LONG video, so I'm going to have to break it up and post it to youtube. I'll post a follow up when I've done that.
Probably the coolest part of the parturition process was when she angled her cloaca right at the video camera. You can see her cloaca open up and the baby, still in the membrane, comes out. The REALLY cool part is that you can see all kinds of stuff floating around inside the membrane, like a snowglobe! It's WICKED!
Rose was almost 6' and 9 lbs 8 oz after the cooldown and before breeding (January 24th). She weighed 6 lbs 7.2 oz after delivering today. So, she lost 1/3 of her body weight during the breeding, gestation, and delivery process. She was fed about half a dozen small meals during the first half of her gestation. By small I mean that she normally eats an XL or jumbo rat, and was fed mediums during gestation. She currently has an XL rat thawing out for her munching pleasure
On to the pics! Because I know that's all you care about! lol Hell, it's all I care about!
The dam:
Rose, a Guyanese BCC born in captivity in '01 to a WC female captured gravid along the Essiquibo River Delta.
At her best as a juvie (wrapped around 2 male Guyanese BCC I no longer own):

NOT at her best, this was taken before she gained back all of her weight from her prior litter. She was still several pounds underweight and as a result, was not as impressive looking as she was just 6 months later.

The sire:
Mr. Damn is a WC Guyanese BCC captured along the Essequibo Coast that was imported just over a year ago by Mike Roberts of El Dorado Reptiles. Mike was the guy who supplied Pete Bandre of Incredible Pets with animals from Guyana for YEARS.

These two animals COULD have met in the wild (theoretically) making these babies locality animals from the Essequibo River of Guyana. Pretty cool!!!
That makes these animals perfect for a locality project focused around the Essequibo River, or a Guyanese BCC project, or a Northern Shield project. They can fit into any of them I want!
BABIES!!!!

The in-cage shots SUCK

here's the whole litter... in 2 pics
Left side of the group

Right side of the group

Then I pulled them out and placed them in a tub

Crazy color variation

More color variation

Strange.. right?

It gets MORE extreme

This'll throw you for a loop!

Final group shot after I went through and moved them all around. You can see the two in the previous two pics PROMINENTLY

Most folks tended to focus on the two extreme colored animals (me too) so later in the day, I put them together for a side by side comparison. Lighting stinks and the background CERTAINLY is not the best to show the two off, but I was in a rush

Finally, here are the videos of the birth. In total, I had around 50 minutes of footage from start to finish. I trimmed it down to 2 ten minute videos. They're both available in HD and if you choose to watch them in HD, give 'em time to load!
Also, my video camera was free, and I got what I paid for so the quality isn't superb. It is available in HD, but I wouldn't recommend filling the screen with it as the quality just isn't there.
Also, this was my first attempt at doing ANY kind of editing to a video at all so it's pretty basic.
Having said all that, I'm happy that I was able to get these videos to turn out like I did. I was able to capture some GREAT moments on video that I think you all will be able to appreciate.
The links below are for the HD version. If you don't want to wait on them to load (could take a while), you can change the resolution at the bottom of the screen where it says "720p". You can decrease the resolution (speed up the loading of the video) or increase it to 1080p as well.
