I got this a lot when my kids were younger. But I have to say I am so sick of people insinuating we herp keepers are messing with death by salmonella.

Don't they carry disease!?

Ironically when I was deathly ill a few years ago it ended up being a DOG TICK that got me. Took my Dr. three days searching for blame of one of my 'exotics'. I have changed doctors.

We can wash our hands can't we?!

Not to belittle anyone affected by this latest egg salmonella outbreak certainly....but having taken so much crap over the years about disease from my pets I find it interesting that many thousands of people apparently have food preparation issues and or cooking thoroughly troubles. Either way it is odd that the blame is on the egg producers. Will we all get a bit commercial egg phobic now? Glad I have chickens in the back yard and can take responsibility for my own disease control and hygiene.

...I've been telling people that for years...WASH YOUR NASTY HANDS!!...seriously my 9 year old handles our snakes and his slider turtle, then uses hand sanitizer afterwards and he has NEVER gotten sick, not once...if your child gets Salmonella from a pet reptile (or under cooked food, other pets),you the parent are not doing your job properly...

P.S. ...I stole your sigline for another forum lol...

Ive only had salmonella once and it was from fish, the kind you eat.Me and my dh both were sick as dogs. Im willing to bet that if I swabbed out my dogs or cats mouth Id find all kinds of bacteria that could make us sick..At least my snakes dont give my kids kisses(Yuck). We also have our own chickens and rarely buy eggs but Id feel really bad if we got sick from our own eggs.Im always a little freaked out by that thought.

...just make sure you cook the eggs thouroghly before serving and you wont have to worry about the dreaded Salmonella...
