Housing

I would have posted this under housing & enclosures but it looks like no one uses that forum anymore.

I have an 09' male and soon will have another adult male. I have a 55 gal. aquarium that is 48"x12". I am considering putting a divider in the middle to give each male a 24"x12" home. Is that enough room or do I need to keep them in something bigger?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

I think 24 x 12 is too small for an adult Ball. Maybe give the 55 to the adult and get a different tank for the 09?

A twenty gallon aquarium is the general standard for one adult ball python. We keep a set of adult females in a 75 gallon cage and they are as happy as a bug in a rug. A 75 would be large enough to divide in my opinion, but I don't think a 55 would be large enough. Especially if it is of the fish type aquariums. It lacks the floor space. Being a more terrestrial python, they should have good floor space. I would say no less then 2' x 2' per individual adult. Twelve to eighteen inches of height is plenty. The shelf caging I have in the planning stages of construction is going to be 4'w x 6't x 12-24"d. I am planning on having three to four cages made into this single unit. Right now I am working on a cage for two sub adult retics that measures 84"L x 42"D x 18"H. That is posted in the hab and caging forum, so I won't get into anymore than that. Hope this helped with your delimma.

Thanks for the info! I am just going to get another aquarium. This will be my first attempt at breeding ball pythons. This season I will have 2 ph carmel albino's to put together. Exciting to me!
