Repairing a cracked tank

MaryC Sep 24, 2003 10:50 PM

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post a while back "Describe tank setups." I ended up following bloomingdaus's advice and ordering a cork-bark round from TheCorkStore.com. The total cost was only $11.00 and it arrived yesterday. I had plans to tank a picture of my new setup to show everyone, but today as I was fixing it up, a heavy rock slipped from my grasp and cracked a big spider-web in the short side of my 55 gal tank.

So...does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this? I've been told that a good glass shop can replace the one side and seal it up good-as-new. This tank is pretty old, do you think it worth the trouble? Do you think it could really be "good-as-new"?

If I end up buying a new aquarium, does anyone have any ideas for ways to recycle the old one? I hate to just throw it out. I'd be willing to give it away if someone wanted it for a terrarium.

Hey Mary,

I can't believe I didn't think of this when we were talking yesterday, but if you want to give that tank away, I might be able to take it off your hands. Caesar will be needing a bigger tank in a few months. We can get the broken glass sealed and cover that side of the tank with something to make sure it is safe.

Just a thought. It's kinda cool to respond to you on the forum like this. (She's my sis...)

Sounds like a great idea to me. And you can drive across the country to pick it up...when?
