Should 09 female breed this season?

tevie84 Aug 25, 2010 04:58 PM

I have a 09 female that is over 1300 grams. Should age be an issue more than weight? Any input in appreciated. Thanks.

do you want to breed her or not? an 800g ball can breed and lay eggs....however it's not recommended to due issues that can arise.

1300g female should be good to go....but is she a long and skinny 1300g or a short and thick 1300g....that's what will make all the difference.

She is short and thick. She is a hog. I didnt think she will be big enough for this season. Thanks for the input.

It all depends on the female, they let you know when they are ready. She may breed late in the season for you therefore she will have more size to her anyway.Hope this helps and good luck!

09 with that size ?

I would like to see a pictures.

From what I know, it's usually more age than weight before they are ready to breed. You have to let her mature.

i have bred females that were 18months old between 1200-1500g, and successfully bred them again the next year...and they were between 1900g-2000g on their second breeding. it all depends on the female, if they are ready, if they have the fat reserves...etc....

some of those females should be good to go this winter as they are already past the 2000g mark right now....

gotta love those good eaters........

I am somewhat confused an 09 female at 1300 grams how is that possible unless you are power feeding the snake which is unhealthy. i have femals that never refuse a meal that are 09 and are only around 600 grams.

well if it was born in say jan of '09 that gives it nearly 2 years. wouldnt have to be powerfed either, maybe she just eats every 5-6 days and never misses a meal

I bred two early '08s this season with success. Both were over 1500g at breeding time and had good mass- thick bodied compared to their length. I had others that were 1500g, but lean. I wouldn't breed those.
