Question about Lesser Platinums

MikeMurphy Aug 26, 2010 03:03 PM

I keep colubrids so I know very little about ball pythons although I have had a couple normals over the years. I saw quite a few at the Daytona show that caught my eye, namely the Lesser Platinums.

If I'm reading right, when you breed two lessers together you can potentially get a luecistic, correct? Are there different strains of lessers that are incompatible with one another or will the results be the same by breeding any lesser to any other lesser?

Also, I've seen prices for these all over the place. What would be a fair price for these or a pair? Any recommendations on breeders that have nice ones?

Thanks for the help,
Mike

And it gets more confusing...I also read that you can breed a mojave to a lesser and also get leucistics? I hope I read that right because the lessers and the mojaves were two of the ones that I kept looking at at the show. Thanks for any info and recommended breeders of these guys. Mike

HI There
I would like to share what I've found out so far since this is also a topic that interests me. Not sure how accurate it is, so please be kind enough to correct me.
You can get blue eye lucy(BLE) by pairing up any of the following: lesser, butter, Mojave and Russo het lucy( or some calls is Russo hi yellow).
Phantom can be paired up with lesser, butter or Russo het lucy and get BLE.
But, phantom and phantom will produce super phantom.
Also, you get mysitc potion when you breed a phantom to a Mojave.

I must say this is very amazing and a bit unbelievable. Either the ball python gen is just full of surprises or the Internet is too packed with unproven myths

Put me in the full of surprises camp. And ball python genetics is nursery rhyme simple compared to mouse genetics.
