Merge the gray banded forum/classifieds

Ryan_Sikola Aug 27, 2010 05:16 PM

Why of all of the kingsnake subspecies, why do gray bandeds get their own forum and classified section? Don't you think it's about time to merge them into the kingsnake forum and change the "other kingsnakes & milksnakes" classifieds to "kingsnakes & milksnakes"??????

The way its set up makes no sense. Why doesn't trans pecos or green ratsnakes have their own forum/classifieds and all other ratsnakes get thrown in a "other ratsnakes and foxsnakes" section??

"why do gray bandeds get their own forum and classified section?"

It's so they can stay away from everyone else while they argue and bicker amongst themselves about which mile marker or rock a snake originated from..

I am happy with the way it is, and wouldn't change a thing to be honest.

What Doug said. In this particular case, leave it split, PLEASE. Maybe not the classifieds (I don't see many GBKs offered up on that section) but leave the fora split.

I can see merging back maybe the Mexicana forum, and putting the old/new world rat snake fora back together though. Kingsnake has, it seems like, attempted to take a pragmatic approach to splitting fora out rather than basing it on taxonomy. Sometimes they get too split happy though.

which ones got the axe? I still see...10 or 12? Listed on this page under subforums

I tend to not like splitting unless/until traffic gets unmanageable for readers to keep up with. It's why I'm fine with a BP forum and a leopard gecko forum (just for the sake of not flooding the regular gecko and python forum), but don't really care for having tons of splitting...I think it fosters more clannishness and tends to segregate different parts of our hobby, depriving us of different experiences and viewpoints that might be applied to different questions.

Cindy,

The only thing I would recommend, and would really love to see, is the classifieds "other kingsnakes and milk snakes" split into two separate classified categories: kingsnakes and then one for milk snakes. You have milk-heads and king-freaks, and sometimes you simply don't want to wade through 50 ads for Cal king before you see the first worthwhile milk ad (and I'm not slamming Cal kings as I keep several pairs myself).

I've always wondered why such a large grouping of species and subspecies are sharing the same classified category, while something like New World ratsnakes has it's own category (which I love too).

Too funny!!

Now if the button was moved over just a bit it wouldn't be a problem at all!, but ya have to practically glide over the thing to hit the normal "reply to this message" button.

As a matter of fact, I accidentally went over that dumb button AGAIN! to post this!..HAHAHAA!!

Well, at least this stupid little share window goes away quickly, On one of my image hosting sites they had this interactive advertising that would start automatically downloading video commercials for antacids, dish soaps, other products. This was so annoying having to fend off these unwanted downloads! Lately that has ceased, thank the gods of minor annoyances.

Oh, not at all Cindy!!, I wanted VERY MUCH to meet you there at Daytona!. But by the time the idiots finally left their house, got a speeding ticket on I-95, picked me up and we finally got there, it was around 2:00 freakin pm. Then after it seemed I just got there, the dude's had to leave at exactly 4:00pm. It was absolutely ridiculous, and was basically over for me in no time, and I only saw a small fraction of the people I wanted to see there..LOL!

Oh, It will happen!, and we will have great laughs I'm sure!..

later!, ~Doug

Why of all of the kingsnake subspecies, why do gray bandeds get their own forum and classified section?

>>>In the beginning Jeff created The Alterna Page and it was good. Seriously this whole website started as just The Alterna Page. Jeff was/is a grayband hunter. He started The Alterna Page and forum first and the rest of the site grew from that.

Don't you think it's about time to merge them into the kingsnake forum and change the "other kingsnakes & milksnakes" classifieds to "kingsnakes & milksnakes"??????

>>>I don't. I like it the way it is. Gray banded kingsnakes have a unique culture all their own. Merging would almost certainly result in some alterna hunter starting a new website and forum devoted exclusivly to Graybands. Alot of the original participants of the Grayband forum are still here and it's the only forum they read/post on.

>>>Take a trip to west TX in June and you will understand. All the herpers hang out in the hotels in the daytime, watch the Weather Channel and talk about herps. Then at night we all hit the roads. Some even bring out herps to sell and trade although this has decreased quite alot within the last 10 years or so. I actually used to sell more graybands(captive born of course as almost no grayband hunters are willing to part with one they collected) at the hotels than I did at herp shows. You will make friends from all over the country, it's a great experience.
