Keeper Dinker Baby

SlytherLyn Aug 28, 2010 08:17 AM

My 2nd Dinker Baby came out of his egg today. This one is brother (or sister, don't know yet) to the baby in the "Lucky Baby" post below, only this babies egg didn't start to go bad so he had a much easier start to life and stayed in his egg until he'd fully absorbed his yolk (day 64).

The mother of this clutch was imported from Africa as a baby and hand picked out of over 100 babies by a local breeder for her unique look. The father of this clutch is a Pastel male who is actually the son of the Dinker mom.

This new baby is really cool looking. Looks to be a Pastel like his daddy. He has dots on his head, then a whole row of dots running down the last 2/3 of his body.

Some of the dots are surrounded by whitish patches which is neat.

I sure hope he won't lose his cool dotty pattern as he gets older. If anyone else has one who had dots like this as a baby I'd love to see pics of how they looked as they grew up.

I would say your dinker female definitely has something genetic going on, because yeah baby resembles dad very much. That is far from your average pastel for sure, and I would hold them back. I really like it whatever it is. That gene is adding some nice flare to an old morph, and I wouldn't mind taking that baby off your hands to dink around with myself. Anyway goodluck Lyn, you are onto something.

Even if there isn't anything else at play there, it's at the very least a great looking pastel with tons of blushing. Keep us updated with pics as he/she gets bigger.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this little baby is adorable.

Here are better pics of the Mom and Dad. The breeder I bought the pair from said the Mom looked alot like a Cinnamon as a baby but then got darker and darker as she got older. She has a pretty clear belly. He bred her to a Bell Pastel male and kept back the most unusual looking male baby who is the Pastel male I bred to her this year. He said the Pastel male holdback was really gray as a baby like a Pewter. He's more of a golden color right now, definitely not a Pewter. Looks to have a velvet sheen if you see him in person but that doesn't show through in photos.

I'm definitely keeping the dotty baby regardless if it's a boy or girl. I am hoping at least one of the other two is a female. Unsure yet if I'll keep all 3 or put one up for sale (locally, I don't ship). Will figure that out once I know their sex's.

I have seen a couple of cool looking Pastels like that over the years, I really like the look. The speckles down its back seems unique. Nice snake...
