Not true. We saw an ugly one in west Langtry once. We'll Try and find some more in the future.

The one in the first pic is one of the nicest alterna phases ever collected, IMHO. Did you get any hatchlings from it this year? If so what one(s) did you breed it with?

I have bred this male which is a 277 from just north of Curruthers creek to an f-2 277 redbluff produced by Aaron Matteson from the Adam Sweetman line. Here is a picture of the female and a couple of previous clutches. I have a clutch in the incubator from them this year which is due to hatch soon.

How much do you normally price your snakes for?

Coach Sep 05, 2010 02:43 PM

I don't sell many alterna but when I do they are usually a year or two old and well established. Alot of work goes into producing and getting them going so I have a hard time letting them go. . Price varies based on locality and beauty.

Hey Coach,

To be honest, I can not blame you. Its hard to let any alterna go. Been looking for a male highway 277 for my female for some time. I will probably try my luck next year and see if I can score one( or 2) from Shannon Brown or another breeder.

1.0 (soon to be 1.2) East Sanderson Alterna
0.1 Highway 277 Alterna
1.1 Non Locality Alterna
0.1 Trans Pecos Ratsnake
0.1 Apricot Pueblan Milksnake

Thanks. That was me who sold you the Sweetman pinner you used, lol. I knew you used it before on that snake but was curious about this year.

I know you have caught some other cool ones from the south end, near where you caught the pinner. Do you plan on using any of those anytime soon to produce your own F1's? I think that would be really cool.

There is another snake you got several years ago that I have been wondering about, a South Carruther's black headed intermediate phase. It's got wide black primaries for an alterna phase, or narrow Blair's bands if you think of it more as a Blair's, with orange in the nuchal and a few of the bands, and it has a few alternates. It's not super pretty in the traditional sense but I thought it was really cool looking. Do you know the snake I'm talking about? My questions are, is it a male or female and has it been bred? If so I would really like to see what it was bred to and some of it's offspring because I think that was a really cool snake.

That snake you are referring to is unfortunately gone. As far as the male pinner is concerned I will breed that to a radio tower next season to make some f-1 animals. I have been also thinking of breeding the female red bluff I got from you to this male I got off the stair case cut.

This is the red bluff I got from you.

I think they would make some interesting offspring.

Aaron Sep 06, 2010 03:55 PM

Bummer, I liked that one. I look forward to possibly seeing what your pinner male produces in the future. It will also be very interesting to see what kind of mix you get breeding the light cb female pinner to your medium-dark stairstep male. I like the white borders on the stairstep male too.

The pairing that produced the pinner you got from me had a very strong tendency to produce pinners. Here are photos of the parents, both were captive produced by Adam Sweetman and originated with specimens originally found in the vicinity of Red Bluff. They both now belong to Shannon Brown.

Hwy. 277 #005 male.

Hwy. 277 #006 female.

This snake was also part of the same breeding trio and was also produced by Adam from Red Bluff stock and obtained by me at the same time I got the above pair. It was not used to produce yours but was part of the original trio I got so I thought I would throw in a pic. In person it has that "bluish" gray people talk about. It was definatly one of, if not the nicest, Blair's I've ever owned. It is now also owned by Shannon Brown.

Aaron,
Thanks for those pictures. The female pinner from you and my wc male have only produced alterna phase offspring. That light blairs is HOT. How did you ever let that one go?

Aaron Sep 07, 2010 10:06 PM

Well it went to my good friend Shannon so that makes it easier. Plus I kept a trio of it's offspring. I kept a pair of pinners too. Basicly I just have so many of my own line of 277's that I had to let something go, lol. My line is real good but still not as nice as the Sweetman's. I am just more attached to it, you know how that goes I'm sure.
