Babies won't come out

ghost5967 Aug 28, 2010 07:29 PM

Just a quick question for anyone who breeds. This is my first year breeding, so a lot of this is new to me. We have had two clutches hatch out, so far, no problems. The third clutch is being stubborn. At day 65 we decided to cut the eggs, and they all appear to be normally formed babies, not sure what morph they are yet (that's a whole other story). It is now going on day 69 and they are showing no signs of emerging. They are still alive, they do move around a little, but they are not coming out. Does anyone ever take them out manually? Or am I better off letting them come out on their own? (I guess technically that is two questions)I'm just worried if they stay in too long, their will be detrimental effects. Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried pointing a laser thermometer at them and seeing their exact temps? Could it be possible they are a little cooler than the other eggs in your incubator and they aren't quite ready to come out yet? Just some ideas.

What's the temp ?
What's the set temp and the real temp.
Got any spike of either high or low ?

At that time they should be ready to emerge. But I heard someone going to near 80 or pass that with some low temp down to 84 I think.

If they move in the egg, there is still yolk, I would believe it's ok.
But I don't have that much experience, my first year too, 3 clutches.

NEVER pull a baby out of the egg. The reason they have not yet emerged was likely because you cut them and they just plain aren't ready. They'll emerge on their own, don't rush them.

Yes Ive seen this before, there just takeing longer. Maybe it has something to do with the Mom holding them a shorter period of time. Ive seen one female lay eggs that did this and she was a big young animal, but the babys took 69 days to come out. Try not to Think about it to Much and they'll be out of the Egg in a day. Was the Mom Young by any chance?

I have seen this work the same way even if mom hold the eggs longer than normal I had one clutch come out on day 50 out of the egg but mom layed like 2 weeks late so iguess they were ready.

Thanks for the replies. I figued it would be better to wait, I just needed to hear it from someone more objective. I will definitely check the temps first thing this morning, but this incubator has been pretty good about heating evenly, right around 89. I did have a problem one day, I needed to replace the power source, but the temps only dropped a couple of degrees, for a couple of hours. Another reason I am antsy, is because of the morph issue I alluded to before. I paired my sable female to an odd looking male I picked up as a dinker project. I did not witness a lock, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Then a friend of my picked up a male sable, so we decided to try and make sme supers. I did witness locks with these two. Well, when we looked in there is one or two that looks kind of normal, two that look similar to the dinker male, but they could also be supers; that is why I am impatient for them to come out. And finally, the last egg looks like something really crazy is going on, adding to the suspense. Thanks again for the replies. If anything cool develops, I will post pics.
