It's about time...

Eve finally dropped her first litter for me. She's my only wild caught female. She was imported to the US in 2006 and was already gravid. She dropped her litter in captivity and it included a gorgeous striped lighter colored female I named Genevieve. I acquired the entire lot, Genevieve, her mother Eve and all her siblings. This is Genevieve...

Genevieve was sold as Striped Hypo but IMO is not Hypo and since Eve was bred by a Lockwood line Hypo and no Hypo babies were produced. Eve is clearly not carrying a Hypo gene compatible with the Lockwood line gene.

I've tried to breed her ever since I got her and nothing until now. Guess it took a while to acclimitize to the new hemisphere.

I had her due date at 08/19 based on a shed date of 04/24. LOL, only 11 days after Tawney was due yet the litters were 26 days apart. Any ways, Eve was a little overdue, 9 days by my count. I noticed the last couple of days she was moving around a little after being in her hide for weeks.

This morning at 5 AM she was still in her hide. At 9:42 she was out of her hide and suddenly skinny. Note the lil baby in the hide...

I pulled the hide out and found freshly laid babies still mostly in the sacks...

So fresh, I left them for a while. Four hours later, several were out of the sacks and all were ready to be cleaned up and put away....

Final count was 16 full term babies with no stills or slugs. All out crossed Het Hypos, can't get much more out crossed than Hypo x wild caught. Most were 34 grams apiece with a few at 33 grams. Only down side is the ratio was 11.5, go figure!!

The boys...

And the girls.....

I "was" looking forward to a nice little gap between Eve and the next litters. But with her going so late, I going from cleaning up babies to pacing for the next due females. Ah well, no rest for the wicked!!

Congrats Dave, a great litter!
Shame she wasn't het hypo as hoped for but still a great result with out crossed hets

I just had another litter born yesterday (28th) with 21 live babies & 1 slug (will post pictures soon).

Both of my girls have dropped babies earlier then their due dates but all babies have been healthy/full term with no yolks.

1st litter was due 16th August @ 117 days POS (21/04/10) but arrived on 1st August, so 15 days early.

2nd litter was due 6th September @ 117 days POS (12/05/10) but arrived on 28th August, so only 9 days early.

How soon after giving birth do you offer the female a feed, out of interest?

What temps are you gestating at?

I like to give the female a few days to settle in, allowing her internal organs to redistribute before feeding her.

The 2 females of my most recent litters are housed in a racking system i made, they are heated with heatmats @ 86'F.

That's the same as what i do then, i usually leave them for a few days before offering them a meal.

I thought so, the higher gestational temps will speed up the process, hotter oven cooks faster!!

Hey Dave,

Grats on the litter. I can't wait till some more of your babies start dropping. I love seeing pictures of your little slimers.

Thanks Cliff

Sadly no, there were not anything stand out like Genevieve. But I really did not expect to find anything like her. Eve looks pretty normal so it either had to be dad or recessive. Of course I will look them over more closely as they shed.
